Elma Toy Obituary

ANDOVER TWP. - Elma A. Toy, 97, formerly of Newton, died Monday evening, Aug. 25, 2008, at the Andover Nursing Home, following a long illness. Born in Springfield, she had lived most of her life in Newton.

Daughter of the late Charles A. and May Fest Thom, Mrs. Toy grew up at the Newton Country Club, where her father was the course professional. An avid and active member of the Newton Country Club, she and her husband, Clifford T. Toy, who died in 1976, won many club tournaments and awards. A graduate of the Newton High School, class of 1928, Mrs. Toy was a homemaker and had worked more than 22 years with the former Limecrest Corp. in Andover. A member of Christ Episcopal Church, Newton, she was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Toy enjoyed, and was quite talented at, knitting and needle point.

She was predeceased by her two sisters, Virginia Graham and Marie Duck; her brother, Arthur Thom; and a godson, Robert Duck.

Survivors include her godson, Ernest A. Duck of Hamburg, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008, at 11 a.m., in the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home, 156 Main St., Newton. Interment will follow in Newton Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m. Online condolences may be offered through www. iliffruggierofuneralhome.com.
