Fumi Smith Obituary

ANDOVER TWP. - Fumi Hikichi Smith, 80, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2008, at Newton Memorial Hospital.

Born in Marumori, Japan, Mrs. Smith came to the United States 41 years ago and has lived in Andover Township since 1979. She had a great love for animals and her gardens, where she spent many hours creating beauty in the world around her. Her caring and generous nature will be remembered by her family and friends.

The daughter of the late Hitoshi and Mohachi Hikichi, Mrs. Smith is survived by her beloved husband, Joel D. Smith; five nieces and nephews; and 12 grand-nieces and grand-nephews, with whom she loved to spend time.

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St., Newton. Visitation will be held Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Room For One More, 155 Stanhope-Sparta Road, Andover, NJ 07821.

Joel,
Fumi was truly a dear friend to me for the past 30 years. I will miss our visits and our talks. She was very wise and always gave me good advice. My family joins me in sending our condolences to you.
