Wayne Tompkins

BLAIRSTOWN - Wayne Tompkins, died Wednesday, Oct., 1, 2008, surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Tompkins was a member and lay minister of the First United Methodist Church of Blairstown. He served on many of the boards as a trustee and on many of the committees of the church. He was a member of the Blairstown Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow of the club, and was a former member of the North Warren Board of Education, the Green Township Volunteer Fire Department and the Lakeland Rescue Squad. He also coached Blairstown Little League baseball and American Legion baseball. He ws co-owner and operator of Wires Electric of Hackettstown.

Mr. Tompkins was predeceased by his parents, Roy and Elizabeth "Betty" Hoffman Tompkins, and his brother, John Tims.

He is survived by his loving wife, the former Patricia Lopes; his son, Mark and his wife, Danielle, of Hillsborough, and his daughter, Noelle, of Netcong. He is also survived by two grandchildren; his brother, Tony Tompkins, of Newton, and two sisters, Chris Kivak of Mill City, Pa., and Patricia Fischer of Tunkhannock, Pa.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at the Newbaker Funeral Home, 200 Route 94, Blairstown. The funeral service will follow at the First United Methodist Church of Blairstown, 10 Stillwater Road, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at the New Cedar Ridge Cemetery on Jacksonburg Road in Blairstown.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Blairstown, 10 Stillwater Road, Blairstown, NJ 07825 or Compassionate Care Hospice Foundation, 140 Littleton Road, Suite 200 Parsipanny, NJ 07054. Donations to Hospice will be made in Mr. Tompkins memory and applied to Compassionate Care Hospice in Dover.
