He is the first person that comes to my mind if I think about TV in the '50s and '60s. I moved away after that, but to me he is still the "real" weatherman

I happened to think of Bob Weaver, and how I missed him. I decided to look him up and see how he was remembered.
I always watched Weaver the Weatherman. He was my favorite. I friend of mine worked with him. This friend asked him to say hello to me on camera. Bob said it wasn't allowed but he would try to do something. One night he came on and said. "We have High Hopes for the weather". That was for me, as my name is Hope.
RIP Bob. Never to be forgotten.

I was born & raised in Miami. First watched Bob Weaver, when I was 10, as he guided us through Hurricane Donna in 1960. He was one of the reasons I developed, as a youngin´, a keen interest in the weather. While in college I didn´t major in meteorology, every chance I could, I took meteorology-related electives. Thank you Mr. Weaver... you were one in a million!

Growing up in Miami, Weaver the Weatherman was an icon. I can't count how many times in my life I have spoken about or repeated the name "Weaver the Weatherman" and I was only 10 years old when we moved out of Miami. Thank you, Weaver!
My condolences to the family. You lost a great man!

As a child in the 60's living in Homestead I would be in the back yard playing and mother would suddenly announce... "JB, Weaver the Weather Man is on!"... I would come running to watch. I can't explain why, I was just drawn to him. A man to be remembered, Bob Weaver was about more than the weather, he was a pioneer who made things interesting.

I remember the intro horns sounding whenever Bob Weavers' forecast was about to be announced>my dad would literally stop whatever he was doing( even going to the bathroom!) to ''watch the forecast". Weavers' forecast was that important to my dad. The year was 1971. Radar technology was in its infancy then. Just a simple black and white needle rotating a complete loop every 1 1/2 seconds. Bob would stand behind the image, projected on glass and chalk-mark, with a white grease pen, the directions of the storm(s).

Feeling nostalgic looking at historical bits of history online of "my" Miami the 1950s through 1970s. Reliving Greater Miami - Opa-Loka - Bunche Park's area sights sounds and pictures when I came upon a very fond memory of "Weaver the Weatherman". Watched very little news as a kid but I always watched you. Thinking and remembering you ... I can almost here your voice but I can most definitely remember your smile.
Remembering a special part of my past,

Mr. Weaver was part of my growing up as a So. FL resident. I was born in Miami 44 years ago. I barely remember a time when his name was unknown to me, or when I was not watching him on TV. Along with the passing of Chuck Zink, a happy, joyful part of me is now forever gone.

Bob Weaver will be noted as our local legend in weather and will never be replaced .As a kid I always enjoyed his fun forecast and appreciated his humanistic flair to make his job fun ! As a young adult working as a bagger at Publix at the Hollywood mall, Bob always had a half smile and did not dodge his fans who always pointed him out. He loved blending in with the crowds and was an ave Joe. In our eyes he was a star and will be missed dearly ! We had never formally met, but in my heart I felt very close.
Long after he retired I used to see him at the local HOP and out at a Italian restaurant. I loved to point him out to others to make sure they to knew my legend.
My thoughts and prayer with Bob's family. He will be dearly missed. We will always love you Bob ......

My condolences to the Weaver and NBC6 families for Bob's passing. As a child growing up in Miami in the early 1960's, I can still remember Bob being the primary weather reporter on TV reporting on the many hurricane scares we had back then. His reporting gave all of us a sense of security that nothing terrible would happen. I have had many fond memories of watching him and the rest of the WTVJ crew over the years. We will all miss him greatly.

When I was a little girl growing up in Hollywood, Florida in the 60's and 70's, Bob Weaver was a constant on our TV screens. I desperately wanted to become a meteorologist because of him. But, I was also absolutely terrified of bad weather. Everytime we'd get hit with severe weather I'd get so scared - but my Mom would turn on WTVJ and the calm voice of Weaver The Weatherman would fill our Florida room - talking me through severe thunderstorms, tornado watches and many hurricanes. And, I'd be less frightened. He didn't sugar coat things - if it was going to be bad, he told you it was going to be bad. I remember begging my father to board up the house once and when he refused I cried "But Weaver the Weatherman says we have to!!!!" Unbeknownst to him, Bob Weaver was the hero in the life of a frightened little girl, who wanted to overcome her fears and grow up to be just like him. I never met him and he didn't have a clue I even existed - but he sure was a blessing in my life - and for that I am eternally grateful.

To the Weaver family --
My unique connection to Bob Weaver the Weatherman began in the early 1950s when my father bought our first Dumont TV set. Then, in 1957 - 1958, while I was a student at the University of Miami, I was selected as the first co-host of the "Popeye Playhouse" show, together with Glumbo Despair (Dick McCarthy) and the parrot Spingy Me Hearty. Our show was one hour LIVE from 5 PM to 6 PM, followed by Bob Weaver and Ralph Renick.
Now these handsome and talented people I was privileged to work with as a teenager -- Bob Weaver and Chuck Zink -- are both gone in 2006 but not forgotten. Our crew went for one LIVE hour from 5 PM to almost 6 PM in Studio B. Then, everything jumped over to Studio A, but I still watched as all the kids filed out of the studio.
Bob and I always shared a sweet smile and a "hello". I remember how handsome he looked in his makeup and dark suits. And that weather board! How simple and sincere it seems now.
I wish peace and comfort to all who held you dear.

I remember just coming to South Florida striking out in college, new to my freedoms and new to being a "news" watcher. Bob was part of my life's experience in S. Fl. watching the morning news and I have missed him since he retired. He really did lighten up my mornings and I believe those who worked with him were very privileged. He stood out in the newscasting staff as you could see how kind and genuine he was. His humility and humor came through in his jokes and via Weavie the Weatherbird. God Bless his family and us all. We should be inspired that more of us should be like Mr. Weaver.

May you rest in peace Bob Weaver. Yes you were one of the ones I watched in The Bahamas growing up, in the late 50's and early 60's, just like Skipper Chuck, (Chuck Zink). We made sure we tuned in at 5:55 p.m. to catch Weaver the Weatherman, for our weather. You were very important to us for the hurricane coverage you gave, Thank You.

As an old Miamian and someone in the television business working at WFOR Channel 4 (NOT to be confused with the original WTVJ Channel 4), I can honestly say that the likes of Bob Weaver will not come around again.
In today's TV age of breaking, fast-talking, graphics-filled, good looking anchor/reporters yelling at you to get our attention, Bob Weaver was everyman's answer to calm, cool and collected.
I will always remember tuning in a 5:55 PM every day to watch his weather segment (I even remember the weathervane graphic and opening music) and then go on to watch The Ralph Renick Report.
Years later I would look forward to his hilarious puns during the forecast (..."on this day in history...") and still get all the weather information needed without all the hype we are bombarded with today.
The last time I saw Bob in person was at the "Skipper" Chuck Zink memorial, and even though he didn't know me, he approached ME and shook my hand. That's just the kind of person he was.
Bob, may you rest in peace, and be assured that your friends and family could not be more proud of having known and loved someone like you.

"It's time for Weaver the Weatherman." As a boy growing up in Palm Beach County, 5:55 PM brought forth steak on the grill, a briny south Florida breeze rustling in the palm trees, and Bob Weaver on the TV.
Truly, another wonderful man from a great & honest generation has passed leaving those of us behind that much poorer.
It has been said in retrospect that one never misses what they have, or had, until it is gone. How we do miss the Old School of reporters & weathermen these days.
Bob Weaver took us as a family thru hurricanes Donna, Cleo & Betsy, as well as numerous other forms of severe weather.
& I wonder whatever happened to the 12 noon weatherman Don Franklin, & Channel 4 Charlie?
I recently heard from Charlie Baxter; many growing up in south Florida remember him, and Jumpin' Jack, who also did the weather report as well as hosting the 4 O'Clock Club...
We send our thoughts, prayers & condolences to the Weaver family. & remember;
"...if you're out there driving, please...drive carefully. Good Night, everybody!"
& good night to you, Bob; you are always thought of, & will be forever missed.

I was out of town at a funeral last weekend and missed Bob's passing. I just happened across the obituary today. I'm a native Miamian and remember when his weather forecasts came on separately before the newscast. I even remember as a kid hearing that "hurricance alert" sound that would broadcast to let you know Bob was coming on with an update on a storm.
The two people who always were "the rock" when it came to explaining and telling about weather in South Florida were Weaver the Weatherman and the head of the hurricane center many years ago, Neil Frank. Rather than the overblown, excited and sometimes self-important delivery we get today, these men were cool, informed and able to give the information we needed to get without overdoing it.
Bob Weaver's style, whether delivering the weather news to us or volunteering in our community, made him a special person and I am greatly saddened to hear of his passing.
I wonder if there's a newscast in heaven - and if Bob is there giving the heavenly weather report followed by Ralph Renick saying "May the Good News be Yours".

To the Weaver Family,
I am deeply saddened by the news that your wonderful, caring husband and father passed away. I have fond memories of "Weaver the Weather Man" that go back to 1968 when I was a student at the University of Miami and then as a teacher working with your mother before you were born. Bob was the ultimate professional, devoted father, and committed to community service. He was a humble, kind man who never let his fame get in the way of who he was.

When W.T.V.J. came on the air, my family and are were planted in front of the television watching the news and weather with Ralph Renick and Bob Weaver. From then on we became daily, loyal W.T.V.J. news watchers.
As a teacher,I wanted to turn my students into news watchers and we watched the Channel 4 news in our classroom everyday and just as I had become a W.T.V.J. news groupie, I turned them into W.T.V.J. groupies.
In the late seventies, I called the station to see if I could bring my students to W.T.V.J to view the news and that is when I met Bob Weaver. He was the nicest, most humble and most patient individual I'd ever met, and spoke to my students for quite a while after the broadcast.
From then on, we kept in touch and he was always there when I needed him. He even recorded a story opener for me to use with one of my classes.
He was a caring, and sharing man and the memories and photographs I have of him will keep him alive in my mind forever.
He will be greatly missed.
My prayers go out to his family.

Mrs. Weaver and all the Weaver family, I grew up watching Weaver the Weatherman and he gave me so many laughs when I was a kid. It was he and Ralph Renick who made a news junkie out of me. Sometimes his jokes with Ralph were so silly, you just had to laugh at the silliness of them. I loved your husband very much, and will miss him. As it happens, I know Bob and Bonnie Mayer, and often would watch them do the early morning news. The world has lost a wonderful man, and your family has sustained a real blow. My sincerest condolences to you all. God bless. And, I hope that if I make it to heaven, Weaver the Weatherman will be there to make it a sunny day for me. My family and I moved to Miami in 1949. My sister and I grew up watching Ralph Renick, Bob Weaver, Jack Cummins and the other shows on Channel 4. It was the only station we received.. As my husband who, also, went to the U of M from 1952-56 says, Bob Weaver was then and to this day is the best weather forecaster we have had in FL. It is a great loss to TV land but a greater loss to the Weaver family. Our heartfelt sympathies go to you from us.. God Bless and keep you all.

To the Weaver family,
My family moved to south Florida in 1957 when I was 10 years old, and Bob Weaver was our weatherman. He made meteorology interesting and this was one of the reasons that I decided to go to FSU and major in meteorology.
Upon my graduation in 1969, I was hired by the National Weather Service and worked in several states until 1990. In 1990, I came back to Miami as a forecaster at the National Weather Service.
One of my thrills once in Miami, was getting to talk to Bob Weaver, MY WEATHERMAN, on the phone and discuss the weather! I enjoyed talking to Bob and told him that he was one of the reasons that I was a meteorologist.
I waited for his calls early in the morning when I was on the midnight shifts. He always thanked me for any information that I gave him.
May he REST IN PEACE. Bob will be missed but not forgotten.

As a boy growing up in Miami, Weaver the Weatherman was must-see TV. I couldn't wait to see what horrible pun he'd come up with for This Date in History. And, oh yeah, he was great forecaster, too. As a young producer, I had the great fortune of working with the two Bobs (Weaver and Mayer)and my admiration and respect grew even more (even when Weavie the Weatherbird took over the show.) Bob Weaver was one of the nicest men I've ever worked with in my career. He had a way of making everyone feel at ease, especially the nervous young lad in the control booth. He was a pioneer of local broadcasting and, above all, a good friend. I'll miss him terribly.

Bob will be missed because he possessed something a lot of people in the news/entertainment business lack. He had class and was a person who genuinely cared about his job and his viewers. These days with all the hype and modern technology, it's more smoke and mirrors. When "Weaver the Weatherman" was on the air, he was precise with a unique sense of humor. He made you feel like no matter what was happening it was going to be OK and he was there to help you through. I only wish he would have been given a fair and well deserved send off when he was taken off the air. Although I was in the radio business and our paths never crossed, he was a man I greatly admired and will miss a whole lot. May you rest in peace and I will continue to pray for the Weaver family. His spirit will always live on and he will continue to live inside each and everyone of us who looked up to him as a friend and weatherman.

When i came to Fl. in Dec. of 1968 i was alone in a Miami Beach hotel. The first weather report I saw was channel 4's WTVJ.I remember that distinctly because when the news ended I still felt alone. It wasn't till Bob Weaver finished his report that I felt like I had a friend in Miami, I felt welcome. I always looked forward to his weather reports as they always made me feel good, not the humid weather but the way Bob portrayed it. In the fall of 1984 my son Ricky and Bob's son Jason played football together in Hollywood and initially i had no idea that was Bob's Son.I recall an elegant lady whom i befriended as we both stood at the fence and watched practice.I remember some of the people made snide remarks about her because she enjoyed smoking a pipe but i found her absolutely intriguing and i admired her for the courage she showed in smoking that pipe and she didn't seem to care one bit what others thought. As time went by I eventually found out she was Bob Weavers wife and a Mensa member though I didn't believe her at first. When I did realize she was telling the truth I couldn't have been prouder as I have never forgotten what Bob did for my spirits when I was down back in 68.That's my Bob Weaver story, I just wished we had a chance to attend the race track with him and his family as my wife and I also are avid race fan's. I want to extend my deepest sympathy to Myra, Jason and Shane. I am very sorry for your unexpected loss, I wish there was some thing i could do for you but I know from the loss of my own wife that all the rhetoric in the world won't change anything the only thing I found that helps is time. I;m so very sorry Myra, Jason and Shane.Another era in our lives is gone forever.
Affectionately, Richard Petty Sr.

I am saddened to learn of Bob's passing. When I was 8 years old and growing up in Ft. Lauderdale, I began to watch his weathercast at 5:55 pm each evening. His program sparked an interest in meteorology in me that grew stronger with each weather event he covered. I went on to obtain a degree in meteorology at FSU and had a 28 year career as a television meteorologist. Bob had a wit and technique that was immitated by many, including myself. Thanks, Bob. I will miss you.

I have always thought of Bob from those days of Black & White TV. I first met him when I was visiting the station at age 12. Then I worked at WTVJ during the 60's while going to U of Miami where I was one of his cameramen and then was able to direct the show.
After returning to So. Fla after 35 years, it was terrific to see him still on WTVJ. Obviously, I was sad to sim him taken off the air.
Bob may always be missed but, as a broadcaster, will always be remembered.

I moved from a small town in central Florida to Miami in 1965 and, like so many others before me, I found a friend in Bob Weaver. The first time I turned on the evening news and saw Weaver the Weatherman I remember thinking that this town might not be so bad after all. His pleaseant smile and gentlemanly manner impressed me. Even though I never got to meet him in person I came to feel as if he was a friend.
I was deeply saddened to hear of his passing and my heartfelt condolences go out to his family and loved ones. He was a true gentleman and he will be missed.
Goodbye, Bob, thanks for all the smiles. We all loved you.

To the Weaver family-
I am sorry for the loss of Mr. Weaver. When I was growing up in Miami, Mr. Weaver was a stable reassuring presence. Even in recent trips to my folks, until Mr. Weaver was no longer at channel 6, I would look for his forcast. Mr. Weaver knew his business and had heart. An admirable combination. I am sorry he is gone and am grateful that he chose Miami. God Bless.

I KNEW BOB BRIEFLY FROM WORKING ON THE MDA TELETHON MANY YEARS AGO. TO HIS FAMILY I SAY, SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS BECAUSE IT IS A GREAT LOSS WHEN YOU LOSE SOMEONE SO DEAR TO YOU. HE WAS A SPECIAL PERSON AND WILL BE REMEMBERED BY MANY FOR MANY YEARS TO COME. MAY THE GOOD LORD BLESS THE FAMILY IN THIS VERY SAD TIME AND GIVE YOU THE STRENGTH TO REMEMBER THE GOOD TIMES YOU SHARED AND IN REMEMBERING HELP YOU TO GO ON.

I PROBABLY KNEW BOB BETTER THAN ANYONE DURING THE PIONEER DAYS OF "LIVE" TELEVISION IN THE EARLY 1950'S. I HAD MY OWN LOCAL SHOW IN 1954 SOON AFTER AN APPEARANCE ON THE OLD "KATE SMIH SHOW" ON NBC,N.Y.
BOB ALONG WITH ALEC GIBSON, MARTY ROSEN, LEE WALLACE, JACK SHAY THE STATION MANAGER & OTHERS WERE ONE CLOSE FAMILY. MY SHOW WAS "THE JOHNNY VIAGGIO SHOW" BROADCASTING 3 NIGHTS A WEEK.THE YEAR WAS 1954-1955 & BOB WAS A CLOSE FRIEND IN THOSE DAYS. HE WILL ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED ALONG WITH CHUCK ZINK, RALPH RENICK & ALEC GIBSON. A MORE "DOWN TO EARTH" MAN WOULD BE HARD TO FINE. HE WILL BE MISSED BY ALL....JOHNNY VIAGGIO.

I was born in Miami Beach in 1958 and lived in a small house with my family in the area of Dade County known as Westchester. From about the age of 4, I grew up watching WTVJ Channel 4 news almost every day. The Ralph Renick Report aired in our living room every night. But it was WTVJ channel 4 Weather Forcasters Don Frankln, on "The News at Noon", and Bob Weaver, "Weaver the Weatherman" at 5:55 that got me me interested in the science of weather and SouthFlorida climate in general. I can remember Bob Weaver standing in front of the old magnetic Hurricane Tracking map which they used back then at channel 4. He would break through live programs and give timely updates on Hurricanes Cleo and Isbel in 1964, Betsy in 1965, and Alma and Inez during the 1966 season. He would use a little magnetic Hurricane symbol in the shape of the CBS eye. Sometimes it would fall off the map and Bob would say, "Ah Oh, we just lost our Hurricane". What made the old-time Miami TV Weather-forcasters like Don Frankln and Bob Weaver at channel 4 and Bill Ross at WCKT channel 7 stand out from the crowd was that they were the only guys who would take the time to explain why a certain weather event was about to happen or occur, as opposed to eveyone else who just gave the current conditions and then read the forcast. I still remember a photo the Miami Herald ran in August of 1964 of Bob trying on his new red sport jacket in the WTVJ studio as the station had just gone to color from black and white. From 1966 up untill the late 80s I would go out of my way not to miss A Weaver the Weatherman broadcast or Bob giving the weather during the 6 or 11 PM news broadcast. I will miss Bobs acurate forcasts and his down to earth personality. Over the years I would run into Bob out in public be it at a supermarket a bookstore or the local racetrack and he would always give me a warm hello and take a minute to chat. Because Bob Weaver came into the homes of Millions of SouthFloridians from 1949 to 2003 (over 50 years) always informing us about the weather, he is not only a legend in South-Florida Television history, but a important figure in the History of the early days of Miami. Bob, I miss you already, as they don't make em like you anymore. In the words of Dick Fennel, one of the other old time weather forcasters at WTVJ channel 4, who you used to work with, "regardless of the weather, we hope its a plesent day for you". Solong Bob.

WE ARE SO SORRY FOR THIS NEWS. OUR ENJOYMENT OF "WEAVER THE WEATHERMAN" SPANS SEVERAL DECADES GOING BACK TO MID-1950 WHEN MY DEAR FRIEND, JOHNNY VIAGGIO HAD A TV SHOW WITH WTVJ AND WE SAW BOB THERE EVERY TIME WE WENT TO THE SHOW. I EVEN HAVE A PICTURE OF THE TWO OF THEM TOGETHER.
THEN DURING THE FIRST 5 OR 6 YEARS OF THE LAST 12, THERE WERE SO MANY HOURS OF PLEASURE WATCHING YOUR SON COACHING OUR SON IN BASKETBALL. HOW WE ALL RELISHED THOSE GAMES !!
OF COURSE, TIME GOES ON AND THINGS CHANGE. HOPEFULLY THE SAD TIMES WILL BE OUTWEIGHED BY THE UPLIFTING ONES.
WE WILL TRULY MISS OUR UNFORGETTABLE WEATHERMAN. NAY GOD BLESS YOU WITH THE STRENGTH YOU NEED IN THIS MOST DIFFICULT OF SITUATIONS.
FONDLY,
JOSETTE, TOM AND JONATHAN ZINGLO

On Christmas Eve 1993, we adopted "Winston"(old english sheepdog) from Weaver the Weatherman and Adopt-A Pet.I have talked about "Weaver" to friends near and far. I still have Winston, and Weaver has been a part of our family too.
May memories, family, and friends, comfort you at this time. We will all miss "Weaver the Weatherman."

We have had the privilege to know Bob Weaver through the Florida Youth Orchestra. Our daughter, Alaina, participated in this orchestra for 6 years. During our participation in the Florida Youth Orchestra, our family traveled with the orchestra to Washington, DC for an incredible performance at the Kennedy Center. What a wonderful opportunity for everyone involved! We are grateful for the opportunity to experience Bob's heart for community and his love for children and the arts! Our heartfelt condolences to Myra and their immediate family. May God's peace and love be ever present with you at this time.

During the 70's and early 80's, I was a kid weather nerd. (still am.) I would rush home to watch Weaver the Weatherman's 5:55 PM broadcast, especially during the hurricane season. Bob was entertaining most of the time, and informative during threatening weather events. May he rest in peace.

Bob Weaver was the very first weatherman I worked with when I started out in the TV news business at WTVJ back in the late 70's. He taught me to just be myself on the air, it's a lesson I carried with me throughout my career.
"Weavie" was so natural while being a true professional. Before all the technical gizmos of weathercasting today Bob Weaver got the job done with just a few props and alot of humor. We trusted him nightly to get us through the stormy weather!
Surely Bob's family knows he was loved by friends and strangers alike. He is a South Florida TV legend never to be forgotten.

I started watching "Weaver the Weatherman" in the late '50s. I will always remember him reporting in the early '60s during a hurricane. Weaver was inside the studio and the wind and rain was coming in and he kept going. Whenver I came back to Miami, I would ask if he was still on and sure enough he was. Through all the years, it was such a good feeling to see him there.

I was born and raised in Miami, and grew up with Weaver the Weather Man. As a kid, I was in awe of his writing backwards (how did he do that?). As an adult, I always admired him both professionally and for his community involvement. He will certainly be missed.

I was born and raised here and grew up with "Weaver the Weatherman", Ralph Renick and Skipper Chuck as our local T.V. heroes. Mr. Weaver was like everyone's favorite uncle: funny and kind...you felt like you knew him! Love to his family, from a loyal fan. We missed him on the air the last few years and it's sad to say goodbye.

A very kind man with a wonderful heart. I began missing him when he left the broadcast. He always had a reassuring word and smile. His jokes would bring a smile to your face in any kind of weather.
And during the hurricanes, you would feel relieved just to see him there and somehow you knew things would be alright.

I grew up watching bob and often observing him not taking life or himself so seriously, what a fine lesson he taught us. We often should laugh at ourselves. He and Chuck Zink should be in the same neighborhood by about now, patting each other on the back, handing out class and grace to all. Thanks dear sir.

Dear Shane and family,
We all grew up with Weaver, the Weatherman on WTVJ, Channel 4, later NBC-6. Recently, and as an adult, he greated me every morning at 5:00 a.m. with Weavie, the Weatherbird. He was a staple in our South Florida community, illustrative of the virtues of commitment, faithfulness, and professionalism. Bob Weaver is missed, but he will always be a part of the fabric of our lives. We are blessed for having him among us all these years. My heartfelt condolences to all of you, his family, as you especially mourn his passing from us.
