David 'Kidd' Kraddick Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 28, 2013.
David "Kidd" Kraddick, the high-octane radio and TV host of the "Kidd Kraddick in the Morning" show heard on dozens of U.S. radio stations, has died at a charity golf event near New Orleans, a publicist said. Kraddick was 53.

The Texas-based radio and television personality, whose program is syndicated by YEA Networks, died at his Kidd's Kids charity function in the New Orleans suburb of Gretna on Saturday, said publicist Ladd Biro in releasing a network statement.

"He died doing what he loved," said Biro, of the public relations firm Champion Management, speaking with AP by phone early Sunday. He said he had no further details on the death.

Fans left flowers and condolences written on signs left outside his Dallas-area studio.

The website of Kraddick's flagship station KHKS, known as KISS-FM, featured his photo Sunday and remembrances of his career. Fans left online comments such as "morning drive to work in the Dallas traffic will not be the same with out your voice."

"I don't know why his death is affecting me like this. I never met Kidd in person, but I have 'known' him for 15 years or more. He has brought a smile to my face every morning," Tasha Gillespie Sigler wrote Sunday on the Kidd's Kids Facebook page.

"It amazes me how someone you don't even know can become a part of your family," Holly J Smith wrote. She also wrote that "prayers abound for his family, his work family, and for my fellow Kidd Kraddick listening family."

The "Kidd Kraddick in the Morning" show is heard on more than 75 Top 40 and Hot AC radio stations and is a leader among most-listened-to contemporary morning programs, Biro said. The radio program also is transmitted globally on American Forces Radio Network while the show's cast is also seen weeknights on the nationally syndicated TV show "Dish Nation," he added.

"All of us with YEA Networks and the "Kidd Kraddick in the Morning" crew are heartbroken over the loss of our dear friend and leader," the network statement said. "Kidd devoted his life to making people smile every morning, and for 21 years his foundation has been dedicated to bringing joy to thousands of chronically and terminally ill children."

"He died doing what he loved, and his final day was spent selflessly focused on those special children that meant the world to him," it added.

The Dallas Morning News reported Kraddick had been a staple in the Dallas market since 1984, starting in a late-night debut. The newspaper said he moved into morning show work by the early 1990s in that market and his show began to gain wider acclaim and entered into syndication by 2001 as he gained a following in cities nationwide.

Kraddick would have turned 54 on Aug. 22, according to Biro.

The network statement said the cause of death would be released "at the appropriate time."

Many fans, celebrities included, tweeted condolences and talked about the death on social media sites. One Texas radio station where he was a mainstay ran photographs on its website of Kraddick at the microphone.

Word of Kraddick's passing spread quickly via social media.

"RIP Kidd Kraddick. You were an amazing man and a friend. You are already missed," Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban tweeted.

"Oh Man, I just heard Kidd Kraddick died! He's my childhood dj. What a sad day. His poor family. He was always nice 2 me from the beginning," singer Kelly Clarkson tweeted.

Joe Jonas of the Jonas Brothers, only recently announced as the headline act of a planned first-ever Kidd's Kids charity concert in Dallas next month, wrote: "The sad sad news about Kidd Kraddick is shocking. He will be missed greatly."

Richie Tomblin, described as the head golf professional at the Timberlane Country Club in Gretna on its website, told AP that Kraddick wasn't looking well when he saw him getting ready for Saturday's charity event.

"He came out and he borrowed my golf clubs and went out to the driving range," Tomblin told AP when contacted by phone. "It's kind of a freaky situation. He came out. He practiced a little bit. He hit the ball at the first tee and wasn't feeling good and after that I didn't see him."

Tomblin said the hundreds of amateur golfers taking part went ahead with the event Saturday. He added he only found out afterward that Kraddick had died and he was still shaken about it.

"I'm still trying to figure it out. I really don't know what happened. Everyone keeps texting me asking, 'What's going on?' I really don't know," said Tomblin.

He added he was reluctant to even touch the set of clubs Kraddick had borrowed Saturday for his practice swings.

It will be four years this year since you went home to God.

I remember a listing to you on 102.1 when I was in high school back in 1979-1983. I had left the state for many years & at that time there was no syndication. I missed my DJ Kidd Kraddick. When I came back to Texas in 1995 there you were but on a brand-new show, Kidd Kraddick in the morning on Kiss-106.1

I loved bath time with Caroline as we watched & listened to you talk about her & your wife as the years went by. I loved all of the other cast members around you as well.

I met you on more than one occasion at the concerts that you had during the summers. You're such a warm genuine man. Always positive, outgoing & happy.

I still turn on the morning show & even though all the other people are there. It is just not the same without you. Then I hear the jingle, Kidd Kraddick in the morning. My heart actually breaks. You were this extra special light & gave each morning such a beautiful rise that started off millions of peoples day with pure joy. I miss hearing your voice so much. My heart goes out to your family but I know that you're in a beautiful place & it's brighter because of you.

Keep looking up...because that's where it all is in Heaven with you & our father God Almighty. ❤

Kidd..You will be missed so much. I was heartbroken and cried for days. I could not believe the news as i have listened to you for over 20 years. That following Monday after you passed was so hard especially to hear how Kellie knows what it feels like to be divorced and now a widow. Your time on earth touched many lives and those special children. They will always be Kidd's Kids forever. May you get to play with those who have already gone to heaven. With a heavy heart I say goodbye here on earth but then a smile appears as I know I will see you again in heaven. RIP knowing you were loved and adored by many hundreds of thousands.

I have been listening to you since I was 8 years old. I listened to you on the Eagle and followed you to KISS FM. You were a true inspiration to all. You made my morning commute to work a fun one and I am so glad that your legacy will be carried on through Kidds Kids and Kelli, Big Al, J-Si, Jenna. I only hope I can live my life to the fullest as you did. You are truly missed every day and will live on in our hearts forever. God definitely took one of the best when he took you. Rest in Peace

You were family for many years. My house woke up to you, drove to school with you, laughed with you, cried with you and sometimes for you. Your reach was much further than the airwaves. You impacted people's lives. You allowed us to be a part of yours. Your radio family became our family too. This world has lost a wonderful man, but our loss is Heaven's gain. You made a difference in people's lives. Thank you. God Bless your family both on air and off.

I was on vacation and just heard the news today. I heard the show on Monday and missed Kidd, but thought he was on vacation. I hear Al-Mack say "I thought I heard Kidd calling out to me" and I thought that was an odd thing to say about someone who is on vacation. I googled today, where is Kidd Kraddick and was STUNNED beyond belief to read about his passing. I have listened to the show for the past eight years through some very trying times and it was the highlight of my day, I laughed and cried while listening. My thoughts and prayers go out to Kidd's family (home and work family). Kidd you will be greatly missed.

I lived in Dallas in the mid-nineties and listened to Kidd and Kelly and Big Al and Bert - Big Al was a limo driver that did commercials, Kelly was single and new to Dallas, a favorite bit was bath time with Caroline. I listened to them every morning getting ready for work and on the drive in. I moved back to Chicago and left Kidd and the gang behind. I was shocked when I saw the tickler on E! say that Kidd had died at an event for his beloved Kidd's Kids. So sorry to hear this he was a wonderful man and I know he will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and listeners. God Bless Kidd and keep his daughter Caroline in his care.

I sit here and write my condolences and am still in disbelief that I am not hearing him every morning when I turn on the radio...I still find myself listening in a blur waiting to hear him and realize that he is not coming back! I love listening to the other guys but it is just not the same. I have listened to KIDD for almost 16 years and without knowing him personally, he with all of the others are like part of my family....I looked forward to turning the radio on and waiting to see what was going on that day...no matter the mood I was in I knew I could count on him and the others making me laugh so hard sometimes I would cry. I would fill this guestbook with so many things to say about him but everyone knew who and what KIDD was about. He was an (and I know he'll chuckle when anyone says it) AMAZING person, the things that he has done for so many people is just off the charts...his selflessness was endless and I know that his legacy will go on not only thru KIDDS KIDS but thru the love and support of the others at KKITM and his millions of listeners..they say god only takes the good ones...well he took a great one to look over us. I will miss him so much and only hope he is rocking it up in the sky keeping everyone up there is stitches...until we all see ya again KIDD...I'm gonna KEEP LOOKING UP...:)

Even in the most chaotic of mornings, while getting for school and work, our family would stop talking just to hear Kidd. The show would then become part of daily dinner conversation with our teen age boys. We will sorely miss Kidd and although we never met, he was part of our family.

I'm still speechless...very very sad. My heart breaks a lot for his daughter especially. His family, friends, and of course his cast, who they seemed to be like family. Radio will never be the same. Mornings will never be the same. Never met him, but my heart aches so much. He made his listeners feel like they knew him, I know I felt that way. It's surreal that he passed away doing what he loved in one of the cities that loved him so muchl. I will keep looking up, everybody keep looking up. Take comfort that he was loved by so many and that God wanted him, near him, in heaven. His happy and full of love for eternity. We love and will always miss you David "Kidd Kraddick" Cradick. RIP

I moved to Dallas and turned on the radio and there was this guy who was funny, but at the same time you knew he was kind and compassionate at the same time. The day I head the episode of "Mo Pho Fun", when he got the girl to shave the guys legs in a parking lot. I laughed till I cried. Then the next day when the man lost his job because his company thought it was inappropriate. Kidd was devastated that what was meant as good clean fun, could cause hurt and pain for someone involved. The best part was when business listening to Kidds show called and offered the man a job. He never did the things he did with any intent but to make people laugh at life. I listened for 20 years. My heart was broken when I heard what happened. I feel like I knew Carol and Caroline because he was so proud of them. I know the legacy he has left by the lives he touched knowingly and unknowingly on the radio, and also his love for Kidds Kids. What an inspiring life!!!

This event has shocked me and I don't feel I have excepted it quite yet! I have listened to the show for over 20 year, and I truly believe he has impacted so many lives! He has such a huge heart that shines through with Kidd's kids and even as a listener I could feel the love and compassion he offered others in need as well! There were time on the way into work when I couldn't leave my car from laughing or crying so much! When I became ill and was unable to work, take care of my family, and even drive, I had very little hope; his show was the only thing that could help me smile and occasionally laugh. He may have saved me. He saved so many people without knowing it, with humor. Thank you Kidd and all of the cast of the show! We love you and God Bless!

I never had the privilege of meeting Kidd Kraddick but I knew everything about him. His addiction to Diet Coke, his beautiful daughter Caroline, his love for Kidd Kids, his passion and love for Kellie, Big Al, J-Si, Jenna and Shannon, his sense of humor, his beliefs, his crazy sense of humor, his A.D.D. meds and how he went cold turkey with them, the way he bragged about his brown bag turkey, his outlook on life and mostly how he felt about his listeners. Kidd was my wake up call, my happy place when life was throwing me a curve ball, my laughter in the morning, laughing so hard in the car that I was getting strange looks from other drivers, but most of all, he was my friend. He will be missed so much by everyone that came in contact with him. He touched each of our lives as listeners in a very special way. Thank you Kidd Kraddick for allowing us to be a part of your morning and making our day much brighter.. We will miss you dearly...

I have listened to Kidd Kraddick for as long as I remember. It began with "Burn your Buns" each afternoon when I was in elementary school. The morning commute will never be the same. You will truly be missed. To his family and friends, I am sorry for your loss. “Keep looking up, 'cause that's where it all is.”

I miss you Kidd!
My deepest and most heartfelt condolences are extended to Kidd's family, co-workers (on-air family), friends, loved ones...anyone who knew him, on the loss of this wonderfully talented man. Like most listeners and fans of Kidd Kraddick in the Morning, I felt a connection with Kidd, on a personal level. He came into our lives, homes, cars, via radio and more recently, via Dish Nation, and delivered to us lively laughter, news, anecdotes, tears, among other things, and held us captive with his energy and magnetic personality(ies) while doing so. His love of radio came in a distant second to helping others. Through his selfless acts, many people's lives have forever been blessed. I've listened to Kidd for more than 15 years and I'm a better person for having done so. Kidd was such an inspiration and helped me strive to be a better person. My heart aches! There will definitely be a void in my morning routine. I'm grateful for being able to pay my respects to Kidd Kraddick. "Keep lookin' up, 'cuz that's where it all is"! May God bless him and keep him.

My son and I will greatly miss you in the morning. You brought happiness to the start of our day (and that's hard to do cuz we're not morning people)

Kidd I only knew you from Dish Nation and you and your crew were hilarious. I live in New Orleans and when the story of your death came on TV I had the worst feeling in my stomach that I've had in a while. I was so upset and couldn't believe it. After watching Dish Nation a couple of times now it has become a fact that you are really gone. I hope you RIP Kidd and know that your Kidd's Kids and Kidd's radio crew will be taken care of!
