A gracious and respectable person whose work has done so much to bring so much joy to many of us in these troubled times hard to deal with (2 Tim 3:1). Perhaps more will continue to have positive experiences from a wonderful work that has had an impactful contribution to life and its anxieties.

My deepest sympathy to the family of Jim Bacon. I met Jim thru Bob Hope when he was the King of Mardi Gras....we remained friends thru the years. My husband and I both have fond memories of him. He was a gracious and kind man and one heck of a Hollywood publicist ! About a week ago I was thinking about calling him to catch up....I never made that call and not I regret that I didn't.....rest in peace my friend Jim....Mary West in New Orleans

Despite an equal amount of hard work, long hours and dedication involved, the celebrity beat is often not accorded the same respect as other forms of journalism. The Associated Press provided Jim Bacon the opportunity to elevate the discourse.
While those of us who cover celebrities after having also covered "hard news" might differ with some of Bacon's methods of obtaining scoops, Jim's example reminds us of the necessity of getting the story not only first, but right.
Jim also knew that he was a bridge between the readers who enjoyed his work and the celebrities whom they might never meet, and that sense of responsibility was something those of us who need to ask the questions our readers would ask, were they in our position, must keep as a constant reminder of how to judge our own effectiveness.
