Melody Patterson Obituary
Patterson, who died Aug. 20 of multiple organ failure, was 66.
Born in Inglewood, California, she is known best for her role as Wrangler Jane on the campy television series "F-Troop." She also appeared in episodes of "Hawaii Five-O" while married to actor James MacArthur, who played Detective Dan "Danno" Williams in the series.
Patterson also appeared in commercials and theater stage productions of "Butterflies Are Free," "House of Blue Leaves" and "The Front Page."
Patterson's "F-Troop" co-star Larry Storch offered condolences on his Facebook page.
"It's with a heavy heart that we can let you know our beloved Wrangler Jane, Melody Patterson, passed away today," Storch wrote Aug. 20. "Our hearts are sad today. RIP Sweet Melody. We love you."

Dear Melody...you will be missed as " Wrangler Jane". There are more people interested in F Troop now than in the 60' s. I have a Pinterest in F Troop' s honor..w picture' s of u and cast memember' s. You are away from pain and the suffering now. So sorry for your family and cast member' s...! You really were getting it together when the lord called from your pain. F Troop helped me as a teenager..get through some rough times. Your show' s craziness kept me laughing. R. I. P. Larry and Ken are still plugging away for the show. Rest well in our lord' s arm ' s till we all meet in heaven. Amen

I was just an 11 year old boy when I first watched F Troop and Wrangler Jane. I have the same crush I had back in 1966. She was so amazingly sweet in that role and here I am, 50 years later, still wishing that show was never canceled. May you rest in peace, Ms. Patterson. And thank you for the joy you brought me and my family as we gathered around the tv so many years ago to watch that wonderful show.

What 12 year old boy who watched "F Troop" 50 years ago didn't fall in love with Melody Patterson as "Wrangler Jane"? I know I did! She was a beautiful and energetic "woman" who in reality was only a few years older! She is gone too soon. She will be missed, but she will live on to capture the hearts of future generations of 12 year old boys for years to come. RIP Melody. My sincere condolences to her family and friends.

Dear Family and Friends of Melody. When I was 10 years old and I used to watch Melody on F Troop, I remember thinking wouldn't it be great to be her friend? This lady radiated sunshine! The kind of person that I would want to be around! Obviously, so many people felt the same way. Also so beautiful and a beautiful name too! Never forgot how great Melody was on F Troop and the other roles that she did in her her career. Melody is much loved. She made a big impression on her many many fans. I have had a crush on Wrangler Jane for 40 years and still do. Beautiful, vibrant and warm is how I have always seen her. Another of my "friends" I grew up watching as a kid. Very sad over her loss but knowing she is a Christian gives all of us comfort that we'll see her again in heaven. All my love to you Wrangler Jane. You are the best.....

Agree with Judy O'Connor...yet another piece of our childhood is sadly gone. F-Troop was a hilarious, family oriented show that all ages could enjoy. Melody was the star of the show in my opinion. Melody was a lovely lady, who portrayed a woman of power and self reliance, when few roles like that were available. Though it was in a comedic vein, her character still offered that women could be strong and independent while still being charming and feminine. She did so with style and poise.
My sincere sympathies to those close to Ms. Patterson. As much as we, her fans will miss her presence - I'm sure that her friends and family's depth of loss is beyond words.
Take some small solace knowing that her work will live on; bringing smiles and fond thoughts of her to countless viewers for years and years to come.
