John Quailey Obituary

Quailey, John T., 90, of Ft. Lauderdale passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 27, 2006. Known to all as Jack, he was born and lived many years in Pittsburgh, PA's Oakland and Penn Hills, graduating from Schenley High School. He was a graduate of Penn State University and was an active member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Jack was a real Pittsburgh guy - a man of character, integrity, and a strong work ethic. An ongoing pastime of his was following the Steelers, Pirates, Nittany Lions, and Pitt Panthers. Like so many of his generation, he was very proud of his contribution in World War II. He served in the infantry as a Captain in the 5th Army under General Mark Clark and received a Bronze Star. They were the first in liberating Rome. After the war, he worked his entire career as the Head of Corrective Therapy, rehabilitating veterans in Pittsburgh VA Hospitals. After retirement, for a number of years, he and wife Ethel stayed half the year in Pompano Beach/Ft. Lauderdale, becoming residents in 2000. He loved his family and friends and always put them first. He was the most generous of people, giving them "the shirt off his back" if he could. Jack was a conservationist and enjoyed observing all the wonders of nature. Being an avid bass fisherman, he enjoyed his yearly summer fishing trips to Ontario, Canada for over 60 years. Jack had the most wonderful storybook marriage for 62 years to the love of his life, Ethel. They had two children, Janice Quailey, residing in Morgantown, WV, and son Bruce Quailey, daughter-in-law Sue, and grandchildren John and Tara from Ft. Lauderdale. His dearly loved sister, Mary Ganley lives in Pittsburgh. Jack was predeceased by his brother and best friend, Charles (Stu) Quailey. He will be greatly missed by his extended family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting any donations be made in memory of his beloved wife Ethel to the Alzheimer's Association, 4700 N. Congress Ave., Suite 101, West Palm Beach, FL 33407.

Dear Jan and Bruce: Jim and I are so very sorry that we missed Jack's death notice. We were talking not too long ago and wondering how Jack was doing after the loss of your mother. Well, they are together now and eternally with no pain of sickness and feeling of distress. I'm sure Christmas will be difficult for you; but at the same time hold onto the good memories which I am sure are numerous. God Bless you both and your families. Jim and Paula Hall
