In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will love you and miss you always. My father would always tell me that Kathryn Grayson was a 5th cousin of ours on my dads side, he also said I had the heart shaped face and that favorite button nose and that we kind of looked alike I never got to meet her and would of loved to. God Bless her and she now sings to the Lord.Being 69 now I look forward to seeing her one day in heaven. But for now I have joy in watching her films.

The summer of 1955 I saw Ms. Grayson walking up the driveway to the home of her vocal coach on Shelby Drive in L.A. She was very gracious and allowed me, a 16 year old girl from Florida, to take her photo. Such a dear person who through her kindness gave me a lifelong sweet memory. I am 82 now.

I recieved the 78 RPM album of Show Boat from my aunt when I was 14 yrs. old, that was in 1954, I have always treasured it and still have it, today. I own all of her musicals on DVD, except The Desert Song, which I've not been able to find, but do have it on VHS, she was always my favorite actress, and I too, have an autographed picture of her.

Such beauty and talent. I remember a signed photo on our mantle for many years but it's only since my mothers death that I have discovered a thankyou letter and a later Christmas card from Katherine to my mother that I wish I had the chance to ask all those questions I will never get answers to now.

Kathryn Grayson, along with Mario Lanza, brought opera to the average American. As a consequence, many developed an interest in that wonderful art-form. They were beautiful people singing beautiful music--very well.

I saw Kathryn in "Kiss Me Kate" in 1954. I was only 8 years old, but her beauty and gorgeous singing made a lifelong impact on me. To this day, I love this movie, own the DVD, and still watch. I was so saddened to hear of her passing and feel that we have lost a true treasure. I am a faithful admirer and will be for the rest of my life. Many condolences to her daughter and others that knew her.

For Kathryn...
WEEP NOT FOR ME
Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.
Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.
I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.
Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.
Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.
Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...

When I was eight years old, my parents took me to see The Singing Bandit playing at NYC's Capitol Theatre. We just loved Kathryn Grayson's singing and performance but the best part was that she was starring in a live stage show with her then husband Johnny Johnston. I thought she had the voice and beauty of an angel and we all remained loyal fans, never missing one of her moviesl. Our deepest condolences to her daughter and family. Rest in peace, Kathryn

In 1956 when I was only 14 years old our family took a trip to Los Angeles to visit Dad's family. My Aunt worked at Paramount and arranged a tour for us - on that tour we all met Kathryn Grayson who was in full costume filming the Vagabond King. We had our picture taken with her in her beautiful costume and I remember how kind and soft spoken she was to us. At 14, I was totally taken by her beauty and from that day forward watched all of her movies. That photo is among my most treasured keepsakes. I was heartbroken at the news of her passing. She is in my heart forever.

I havn't seen Kathryn since she was to the opening of the Mario Lanza museum.
I first met Kathryn in Dec. of 1985 while finishing the sets for a holiday concert in Ridgefield Park, N.J. I looked in front of me to a pair of black shoes peeking out from under a long white fur coat. A voice asked me where she would find our director Carl.
I could barely speak. I took her to him & finished my work & left.
The following day before rehearsal I was Introduced by a dear friend who told her of my long time crush on her. She promptly rose and planted a kiss om me the memory of which will be with me always. As I am writing this, I am listening to the albums she gave me so long ago and remembering the nights we ate late suppers together and our evening at the Papermill Play house. It was also such a thrill to have performed with her and got to know her. We even refered to her as aunt kate. We will all mourne the passing of such a dear friend and the world will never see the likes of our fallen star.
May God give comfort to her Family and friends (& Sally)
your friend and longtime fan from N.j.

Growing up in a small town in Iowa, I impatiently waited for Sunday afternoons when the "MGM musicals" played at the local theatre. I can still see/hear Kathryn Grayson on the showboat as she sang "We Could Make Believe." She and stars like her transported us into fantasy lives of music and romance.

They Were Just Two Of A Kind
By D.K. Milgrim-Heath
They were just two just of a kind-
Howard Keel & Kathryn Grayson we find.
From earth to heaven a life is done-
Ms. Grayson's away from every one.
Her beautiful strong angelic voice-
Hearing its beauty was one's choice.
Such beauty being heard was a thrill-
Recorded forever never to be still.
By her wonderful life she did impart-
Joyous love by singing from her heart.
Ms. Grayson we'll never ever forget-
Your grace and beauty will never set.

Kathryn used her God-given voice to bring joy to this world. She was classy, a lady, first and foremost and had the most wonderful sense of humor. In October, 1983 when she was touring New England in "Orpheus", I had the pleasure of taking her and Sally to dinner at Anthony's Pier Four. Our five hour dinner was unforgettable thanks to Kathryn's humor, warmth and generosity of spirit. She will never be forgotten and I hope her family and loved ones can take some measure of comfort in the legacy she left behind.

Ms. Grayson was the consumate entertainer, but more importantly she always had time for family. When Kristen Towers (her grand-daughter) was one of my students at Hollywood High Performing Arts High School she came to every performance and cheered loudly for everyone in the show, especially Kristen. She posed for pictures with anyone who asked it of her. She gave her professional critique which was greatly appreciated. She was a complete human being. I will always cherish my memories of her. She will be missed, but remembered with warmth and affection by all of us whose lives she touched.

What a star!
What a voice!
And she had something not seen in stars today - SHE HAD CLASS!
I recently saw Kathryn Grayson on a "Murder, She Wrote" re-run. Even as as a senior citizen, she still was beautiful! As funny as this may be,her nose was the true button nose, and she was just as cute as! May you rest in peace and sing for the angels!

Patricia,Your mother made me cry listening to her voice, so pure. I saw every movie over and over and over. They do not show them enough as far as I'm concerned. I'm sorry that she gave up movies so early but yet she sang forever and that was more important. She will be sorely missed.
God Bless you and your family.

As you probably have learned, Actress-Singer Kathryn Grayson passed away yesterday 88. I was a friend of her daughter Patty in elementary school. Patty also had a sophisticated, trained voice years beyond her age. About a half century ago Mrs. Grayson drove Patty and me down San Vicente Blvd. in her brand new shiny red Caddy convertible. We sat in the middle of the backseat .Our celebrity mom driver wore a pink scarf and big Jackie-O sunglasses. She asked me,"Bobby, who's your favorite singer?" I responded,"I just love Jane Powell!"
"You do,do you!?" she countered and with that she started to belt out some operatic piece from Carmen. I mean she was singing as if she were on stage! But the singing made her a more aggressive driver, cutting people off and waving her arms alternately as she hit the high notes. I applauded upon our reaching the Grayson mansion driveway half for her command performance and half that we had made it home safely. I told my mom about Kathryn Grayson's Wild Ride and she informed me that I made a faux pas because Jane Powell and Kathryn had often fought for the same roles and were rivals. Kathryn was a beautiful talented woman and a very attentive mother. She also was a heck of a driver.

A great voice. I enjoyed everyone of her movies as a young teenager. She was such a natural actress and singer and her voice encouraged me to become a vocalist. As with most entries here, my memories of Miss Grayson are of her singing and dancing in one of my favorite musicals, "Kiss Me, Kate." She was terrific and I shall always cherish her role.
I also liked her in the few times she appeared in "Murder, She Wrote." She didn't sing in this role but she still was good. While Earth has lost an angel, Heaven has most decidedly gained one. Thank you for all the Joy you brought to so many people and my condolences to the family you've left behind. God bless you.

I loved Kathryn. When I was 12 or 13 years old, we collected pictures of movie stars. We would write the studios and request a picture and they would send a really nice photo of who we requested. I cherished these photos, but unfortunately they were lost in a move. My favorite was of Miss Grayson. Whenever I see "Show Boat" being shown on the old movies, I sit myself down and get lost in Miss Grayson's beautiful voice. She was truly a beautiful, very gifted lady.

Kathryn Grayson was my idol during my teen years. I think I saw every movie she made, and I always wished I could grow up to sing just like her. A few years later, I was actually on a program where she was a a guest star, and that really brought back all the memories of my teen years. And then last year I had the privilege of performing with her beautiful and very talented granddaughter, Kristin. Thank you, Kathryn, for your legacy.

I remember the name Kathryn Grayson as a youngster because everyone thought she looked like my mother, who was dark and lovely looking. I probably did see some of her pictures but don't remember but will try to find some now. May she rest in peace. She was talented and beautiful and , like many other stars of her time, they were in some ways, a slave to the studios. It is good that changes have been made (hopefully!). Kathryn Grayson was my idol. I loved her siinging above all others, and her beauty was beyond compare. One of my fondest memories was being able to see her and Howard Keel at the Cork Club in Houston in about 1970 and be able to see her and tell her in person how much I enjoyed her. She wore a raspberry colored dress which set off her features so beautifully. She was truly one in a million to me. I, too, was a singer, and her sound was the sound to which I aspired. I'm so sorry she's gone. What joy she gave.
