He was the recipient of the Spirit Award in Vocational Education for the city of Norfolk in 1998, Teacher of the Year for Northside Middle School, TSA Advisor of the Year for Virginia, and the Virginia Technology Educator of the Year of Virginia. Mr. Dowe was a member of the Boynton-Weber American Legion Post in South China, Maine, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Douglas MacArthur Post 392 in Virginia Beach, International Technology Association, VA Technology Association, was a 32nd degree Mason, and volunteered with the Red Cross.

Roger was a true family man with a deep sense of compassion and a one of a kind sense of humor, evidenced by the love of his family and the hundreds of friends he made over the years. He wanted so much to make a difference in the lives of others, and he certainly accomplished this throughout his life and as a tissue donor; with his passing, he received his wish to provide a more prosperous future for others. A memorial service with full military honors will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the local chapter of the Red Cross.

I still think of Roger and the fun times we had. I remember he and I piling in my 2007 yellow black top convertable and riding up and down the strip in Va Beach. Two old men acting like we were 20 again plus many more memories. I miss the man, what would we be doing today ???

I continue to think about Roger from time to time. I hope Teresa is well and somewhat comforted by the thoughts of friendship associated with Roger. He was the Chief Engineer while I was onboard the USS Trenton. He will always be 'CHENG" to me. He was a friend and a shipmate. He taught a very green dentist how to be a dental officer and how to be an effective Naval Officer. He was a leader, a teacher, a warrior and a decent human being. I can think of no other superlatives. He was a man I looked up to during a very trying time. God Bless you CHENG.

I still have wonderful thoughts of Roger. I no longer have with me a dear friend nor do I have the Mustang convertible that he and I would ride up and down Atlantic Avenue in Va Beach with top down acting like we were 21 again. I no longer have a person who would anything for you but I do have my memories of him and in that respect we are still "messing" with each other. Roger, I love you Man !

It became a sad day, finding out about Roger's passing. There was no greater gator "Starship" Chief Engineer while onboard Trenton. It was an honor for me to be able to serve as Engineering Officer of the Watch and as the administrative assistant under Roger's direction during the deployment to the Persian Gulf. Physically missing but mentally never forgotten. My prayers are with you, Rest in Peace.

Glenn and I cannot begin to properly express how deeply sorry we were to hear of Roger's passing. Roger always seemed so truly happy, absolutely content with life when he was around my dear friend, his beloved wife, Emily. Emily, you completed him; you were truly soul mates. I'll never forget the way he always looked at you with such adoration, pure joy, and deep love. The pride of having you as his wonderful devoted wife was so evident every time we saw the two of you together. What a blessing for both of you to have had such a beautiful, exceptional marriage. We will miss Roger very much, and our love and prayers are with you always.

We were so shocked and saddened to hear of Uncle Roger's recent passing. He was loved by everyone who knew him - he was a wonderful person, full of positivity, fun and happiness and we have great memories of his visits to see us in Vancouver, Canada with Aunt Milo. Reading through his obituary, we were once again impressed by what an accomplished man he was; he was continuously learning, exploring and enjoying life. He and Aunt Milo had such a loving relationship and they were a joy to see together. Roger was a big part of our family and he will be sorely missed by all.

Mr. Dowe, to this day I look back at the days when I had you as my Tech teacher and TSA Advisor and leader at Northside Middle. I learned oh so much from all the times. You were always there for me and everyone in TSA. I can not start to thank you for everything you have done for me. It hurts to know that you passed, but at least you are in a good place right now and my prayers are going to you and your family.

My wife Barbara, our daughter Ana Maria, my father in law Antonio and I had the privilege to know Roger Dowe. He was an exceptional human being and an extremely loyal friend.

I had the opportunity to know him in a Company CIRS whom I worked in. He visited us with his students whom with great love, he prepared for their future.

It is incredible what a humble and at the same time great human being he was. We, in our family, have known most of his great merits and awards after his passing. He never spoke about him. He cared all the time for the others: in first place for his lovely wife Emily, his children and grandchildren, all the members of his family and all his friends.

We present our simpathy to his wife Emily and all his loved ones and will do our best to keep his memory alive.

Having an uncle who is a good guy is special, but having one who is a very good friend is much more. I can only say that as difficult as the day turned out the last time together, I wouldn't trade being there for you for anything. A nice Maine day, lunch at Moody's and a ride on the Ranger...thanks for the great time. Tracy and I love you and will miss you greatly. Emily, Ronnie, Michelle & Eddie, and family, you are in our prayers.

Roger was one of the dearest friends that I had. We would go to lunch and spend hours talking and "messing" with each other. We met in rehab after knee replacement in '06. We were so much alike. There was not a subject that we could not talk about. I truely loved this man and my life now has a void that no one will be able to fill. One day Roger and I will eat lunch together again.
