RICHARD BUDELIS Obituary

BUDELIS--Richard, artist and Associate Professor of Fine Arts at Pratt Institute. His sculpture appeared in many group exhibits, the Boston Elements Show in 1971, outdoor installations at Ward's Island, as well as Pratt faculty fine arts shows. He was a founder, with John Pai, of the Sculpture Department at Pratt and developed courses in sculpture using plastic materials. He taught a wide variety of undergraduate drawing and sculpture, and tech classes, as well as an art and technology class at NYU on a grant from the Howard Weiss Foundation. He served as Chair 1973-1980 of undergraduate sculpture, ceramics and jewelry, and as Head of undergraduate sculpture 1990-97, and administered the Cantor Foundation grant for Master Class in Sculpture 1994-97. He is survived by his sisters Julia Budelis and Lillian Thiede, his daughter Natalie, from his previous marriage to Maxine DeSeta, and Constance Williams Budelis, his wife of 43 years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Department of Fine Arts - Sculpture, Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY 11205.

He was my teacher for a few years and very dear to me. I thought of him often after leaving Pratt, and I shall remember him most affectionately hereafter

Sorry to hear of his passing;
He taught me 1968. A figure class in grad school. I Hope no one is offended but I had a bit of a crush on him and thought he resembled actor Maximilian Schell who died last week.
