I meet Ed when I went to the Louisville and Jefferson County Planning Commission in December, 1970 for a job interview.
I was hired by Ed and Joe Williams to work at the front desk.
From that interview on Ed was always a gentleman and taught me about Planning and Zoning. Without his advise I don't think I would have stayed with the Commission for the next 26 years.
He was always helpful to all staff and always smiling. It was a pleasure to work with him.
One memory that sticks with me of him was one morning I was in my office and Ed's office was next to mine with a connecting door between the offices that was blocked by filing drawers. Ed came into my office and said good morning. He then pulled a chair over to the files with out another word and climbed up on the files and reached over and opened the door between the offices and climbed down into his office. I didn't know what to say about his action. He closed the door , but quickly opened it again and simply said...forgot my key to the office. We all had a good laugh. He was just a fun guy who would spread out large development plans and his floor and work on them. Many times we would both be on the floor reviewing the plans. Got a lot done sitting on his office floor.
My deepest condolences to his family

Hello,
I am an architect in Raleigh and had the opportunity to work with Ed about ten years ago on transportation design projects for the Triangle Transit Authority and the City of Raleigh. I remember him as a great collaborator who taught me a lot about transportation design and, more importantly, he showed everybody how to be a nice guy. He will be missed.

Ed was so helpful to me during the time we both were at the Planning Commission. Land use planning was made so much better because of him.
