Richard Douse Obituary

A tow truck driver was killed when his rig plowed into the back of a compact car on a rural, quiet stretch of SR 80 Friday morning. The car was pulverized. Three children were killed. And their mother was critically injured. Investigators struggled to understand why. “That’s an extremely flat and clear stretch of road,” said Lt. Tim Frith, spokesman for the Florida Highway Patrol. “There’s no reason why those two cars couldn’t see each other.” Both vehicles were traveling west on S.R. 80 when the tow truck, driven by Richard Douse, 63, rear-ended a Honda Accord, driven by Rosa Lopez Mendez, 21. The accident happened about 11:40 a.m., one mile west of 20 Mile Bend. One child, 5-year-old Carlos Lopez, died at the scene. His brothers, 4-year-old Victor Lopez and 3-month-old Jason Vasquez, were taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center, where they died.

Dick you were something else. You were my Boss, my friend and my mentor. We had so much fun. When you had to sell the business I could have gone anywhere but you talked me into talking to Charlie
I think Charlie won my heart in 2 minutes flat. I loved you two like my Father's. We should have been the 3 Omigos lol. All those years I was so proud to work with and for you guys. Rest in heaven the both of you. Amen

My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Dick. He is greatly missed. Dick is a main reason that I am a recovery agent. He always told me that I could do it when I first went to work for American Lenders. When I went to work for Mid Florida State Investigations, he said, See I Told you! Now that my relationship with Mid Florida has ended and I am branching out on my own, I know he is looking down from the heavens, again telling me I told you so, you can do it.
Thank you to him for the many times I looked to him for encouragement and it was always there.
Thank you for being a true friend. You are already greatly missed.

I am a friend of Rosa and her 3 lovely children. What a tragic accident. Now I realize that I am familiar with Dick. I was born in New Orleans and vividly remember articles and TV spots of the work that Dick did after the Huricaine. It is difficult to understand how 2 families have been so devastated by a simple accident. I am sure that Dick and the 3 boys will become good friends in Heaven. Thank you Betsy for giving me this e mail link. I must remember that God works in Mysterious ways.

Richard Douse was my ex brother-in-law. He was married to my sister and he and I met in 1966. He was a good brother-in-law and a good friend. He helped me back then and later. He had three children with my sister, Angel, that he sometimes was strict with but for their own benefit. He also had another son, Mark, who I met and I thought he was a very nice young man. My wife and I will miss him always. We send our sincere condolences to the whole family. Gene Johnson and Family (St. Petersburg, Fla.)

I am so sorry that Richard was taken away from his family and friends so suddenly. Richard was my ex-son-in-law but he always kept in touch with me. He would call every now and then to see if he could be of any help to me, and assured me that if I needed something he would be there for me. That was really comforting and I appreciated it. I feel so bad for all of his family. You all will be in my prayers.

I am saddened to hear the loss of Dick Douse. I have been out of the repo business for about five years but will always remember that time, especially because of Dick and his staff at PBR. They were business rivals yet they were our friends too. He would call me first thing in the morning and want to know what happened the night before, tell me what I did wrong and what I need to do to change the outcome. He would even get onto me if I was late for work. The last time I was in WPB, he was one of the few people that I had the pleasure of talking to and catching up with. My family has lots of memories of Dick. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family.

To the family and friends of Dick: Although its sad to lose someone who is loved so dearly, there is comfort in remembering all the times Dick made such a difference in the lives of his family and friends. We can never be separated from those we love because our lives are so beautiful, so fragile, so intricately joined to others. Remember God leaves us with memories to hold and love that doesn’t pass away. In time we realize that our loved one lives on.. not only in a home beyond the setting sun, but so much more in our hearts. In the days and months ahead please know that Dick will be warmly remembered and your sorrow is held in the hearts and thoughts of those who care …

God Bless and be with you

Everyone in the Palm Beach Recovery Family really appreciate all the heart felt thoughts and prayers . We are all going through a tough time , with the thoughts of a tough man driving us on we must pick up the pieces and move forward . He is watching me right now saying "stop waisting your time and get back to work" and that is just who he was . It is hard to find the words to express what we all are feeling . It is comforting to know he meant so much to so many people . He was like a Father to me and I am a better man because of him . Do not spend time in sorrow or grieving but celebrate the great man that he was and the great life he lived .

I was VERY fortunate to at one time be the brother-in-law to this great man. 35 years ago and at eight years old, Richard taught me everything I know about hunting, motorcycle riding, stock car racing, CB raidos, driving stick shift, airboating and dealing with a great many of life's challenges. He treated me like his own little brother and I have ALWAYS thought of him as one of my big brothers. He will be truly missed and society will miss this compassionate soul with a larger than life attitude. My love and prayers go out to his family today and hope that Richard's memory will last forever. I know it will for me.

Although my relationship with Dick started out on an adversarial basis, we did manage to become friends and a mutual respect between us was born.
