Once in awhile God just gives all the right DNA for intelligence, physical strength and emotional cool to one person. Then that person may or may not have the character and courage to use those gifts. WOW, Sally did make use of those gifts. The world is a better place because she was here. Heck, I did not even know her and I miss that she is no longer on this planet. But then, she has some experience with leaving this earth.

Tears to the passing of a female legend who, like another aviatrix with her plane, this one with a spaceship, dared to dream the impossible, and go to space. Sally, you did give us a "Ride" we will never forget, or you. Thank you, for your dedication, and girl's dreams, that, heh, we can do this too, and it is not just a "man's" world. Women all over the world thank you. You'll always be in the history books for what you have accomplished and what you did, and nobody can take that away from you. You will always be remembered.

Sally,
Thank you for your service to our country in the name of science. Some of us were never meant to carry a gun into battle; your battle was to push back every frontier you encountered.
I'd hoped to thank you at the final CAIB public hearing in Washington, but there were too many around you. That proved to be a pivotal moment, one that led to the safe conclusion of the STS program. My family and I were invited to Florida to watch the final launch.
Now, you're in Heaven, you know the whole story. I'll bet you were amazed by who was there to welcome you home.
Now, you rest. See you someday.

Although I was born too soon to be an astronaut, Sally Ride demonstrated that women are making some advances in science. I followed her career with joy, and was excited when she became a physics professor after leaving NASA. She left an important mark on women's and scientists' history. I'll miss knowing that she was still inspiring young scientists. My respects to her loved ones at losing such a special person.

Dr. Ride was an amazing woman. Even before she had the courage (like all astronauts) to go into space, she had the courage to insist on studying physics when most of us girls were discouraged from pursuing any higher mathematical or scientific studies. I wonder how many girls and women have discovered a love of science or math and the opportunity to pursue careers in those fields because of Sally? Imagine the discoveries that will be made and how many lives have been, and will be, improved as a result of Sally's influence on girls and women! Now THAT's a LEGACY!!!
May God give peace, strength, and comfort to all of Sally's family and friends. May her memory be eternal!

Sally visited my home when she and her friend Molly were students at Stamford. She played tennis with my daughter at lake Tahoe. They stayed with us in San Diego so that they could go to the Shaksperian Festival in S.D. We had so much fun,and she brightened my household with her smile and optimism. She loved my meals and like the good ole days sent us a beautiful Thank You note. My daughter Pam, and I cried, and asked God to put his loving arms around Sally, that beautiful woman would gave us all HOPE.She died on my daughters birthday. Patricia Connolly Russell
