Mary Werhowatz Obituary

MARY ROSE WERHOWATZ MILLER, IN Mary Rose Werhowatz, age 69, of Miller, peacefully passed away Thursday, September 25, 2008 at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on the Mediterranean island of Malta in 1939, Mary Rose came to the United States when she was 30 years old. She is survived by her loving husband of 36 years, William; one daughter Josie Lynn; mother Theresa Gilson of Malta, Europe; sisters: Joyce (Joseph) Camilleri of Paris, France; Hilda (Frank) DeBono and Anthese (Michael) Aquilina; brothers: Emilio (Jane) Gilson, Tony (Joyce) Gilson, Saviour (Helen) Gilson, Vincent (Miriam) Gilson, Victor (Joan) Gilson all of Malta, Europe and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved father, Joseph Anthony Gilson; brothers: Pawlu and Karmenu; and sister, Rita. Mary Rose was a devoted and loving wife and mother. Her passions in life were her family and her faith. She was an example of her Catholic faith and was an active member of St. Mary of the Lake. She was a member of the Legion of Mary, enjoyed singing in the church choir, a catechist teacher, and more recently a Eucharistic Minister and member of the funeral luncheon committee and Christmas Bazaar committee. She found great joy in cooking for her family and also enjoyed knitting, sewing, gardening, walking in nature and traveling. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family at St. Mary of the Lake Church, 6060 Miller Ave., Gary (Miller) on Saturday, October 4, 2008, from 9:00-10:00 a.m. A Prayer Service will be at 9:00 a.m. and Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Thomas E. MischIer officiating. Cremation at the Burns Funeral Home Crematory will precede the visitation and mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family or for Masses for the repose of her soul. Burns Funeral Home, Hobart in charge of arrangements. www.burnsfuneral.com
