Frank Fillwock Obituary

FRANK ROBERT FILLWOCK FORMERLY OF VALPARAISO, IN
Frank R. Fillwock, age 84, passed away September 15th at the home of his son in Dickinson, Texas during the ravages of Hurricane Ike. He was the loving father to his son John (Diane) Fillwock and stepson, Charles "Bob" (Lucille) Gibbs of Morris, IL. Frank was preceded in death by his loving wife Katherine (Gerry); mother Maude (Naughton); father Frank; and sister Grace Lindholm. Surviving grandchildren are Koja Fillwock of Valparaiso, Stephen Gibbs of Suwannee, GA, and Katherine Wyrosdick of Knoxville, TN. Surviving great grandchildren are Elijah and Mya Fillwock, Jack and Nicholas Gibbs, and Kelsey and Brooke Wyrosdick. Frank was a 1943 graduate of Valparaiso High School after which he joined the army and served as an engineer in WWII. He was part of the invasion force at Normandy. After returning from the war, Frank became a rural mail carrier and a weekend bartender at The Old Style Inn for over 25 years before retiring and moving to Ft. Lauderdale in the early 1970's. His hobbies included reading, bowling and numerous vacations to Las Vegas. He moved from Florida to a Texas retirement home soon after the death of his beloved wife, Gerry, in 2002. Frank was a member of both the Valparaiso and North Ft. Lauderdale Elks clubs. He served as Exalted Ruler of his Florida lodge for two years in the 1980s. He was also a member of the Valparaiso VFW and American Legion. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 4, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at the Graceland Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service. Cremation rights have previously been accorded and both Gerry and Frank will be interred together following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer's Association would be appreciated. For additional information contact Charles Gibbs at 815-600-1883.

Grandpa you'll be greatly missed by many. Even in your last days when you were not as social as usual people saw something in you and loved you for that. Tell Grandma I Love and miss her.
