VERLIN W. GRAHAM "WIMP" HAMMOND, IN
Verlin W. "Wimp" Graham, age 72, of Hammond, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, October 2, 2008 at his residence. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, LaVerne Graham; seven children: Vickie Graham of Gary, Steven (Lee) Graham of Mobil, AL, Deanna (Glenn) Willmont of McDonald, GA, Riley (Debbie) Word and Yonne (Joe) Horvath all of Hammond, Becky Yates of Maryville, TN and Ron (Carol) Word of Temecula, CA; 16 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one sister, Annie Graham of Knoxville, TN; three sisters-in-law: Mary (Albert) Parker and Helen Harper both of Gary, and Pearl Phillips of Merrillville; numerous nieces and nephews; special friend, Leon Wilshire of Lake Station; and faithful companion, his Chihuahua, "Lil Bit". He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 6, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Ave., Hammond (Hessville) with Pastor David Kiesling and Pastor Jeff Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Schererville. Friends are invited to meet with the family at Bocken Funeral Home on Sunday, October 5, 2008 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. Verlin was born in Clinton, TN and moved to the Calumet Area in 1956. He and his family lived in the Hessville section of Hammond since 1974. Wimp was a Marine Corps veteran, serving his country during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the American Legion Post #232. Wimp retired in 1985 after 30 years working as a crane operator for LTV Steel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family. LaVerne, you did a wonderful job on taking care of your husband and making sure he was as comfortable as possible durning his passing on. Im sure Wimp knew he was being well tooken care of. At the funeral home I looked at all the pictures of you and Wimp and you two looked very happy and loving together. It's always nice to look back on pictures of happy days like those, to always remember the great times you two had shared. If there is ever a time you need anything don't hesitate to ask, we are here for you. That's what good neighbors are for.
