Olga Raggio Obituary

RAGGIO--Olga. The Trustees and staff of The Metropolitan Museum of Art mourn the loss of Olga Raggio, recently retired Distinguished Research Curator and former Chairman of the Department of European Sculpture and Decorative Arts. One of the great scholar-curators of European art and culture, she made innumerable contributions to the Museum in the course of her nearly 60 year career. She was well-known for her role in organizing ground-breaking exhibitions, such as The Vatican Collections: The Papacy and Art in 1981, and for exemplary publications such as The Gubbio Studiolo and its Conservation, 1999. She supervised numerous acquisitions and gallery reinstallations that have enriched the experience of the museum-going public. By her example to curators and by teaching graduate students in art history, she mentored many who now continue to play key roles in her field and who extend her scholarly approach to the arts throughout the world. She was greatly admired and will be deeply missed. Thomas P. Campbell, Director Ian Wardropper, Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Chairman, European Sculpture and Decorative Arts
