Richard D. Wulf

Richard Wulf, 83, of Sioux Falls, died Monday, April 20, 2015 at his residence.

Richard D. Wulf was born August 24, 1931 at Stickney, South Dakota. He grew up in the area receiving his education in Center and Crystal Lake Township Schools. In July of 1950, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he served in Germany and at the Kelly Air Force Base in Texas. He took educational courses in Germany, and in 1953, had earned a high school diploma from Stickney High School. In June of 1954, he received his honorable discharge from the U.S. Air Force.

On October 12, 1957, he was united in marriage with Jeanette E. Bentien at Spencer, SD. In 1957, he began his employment with the Veterans Administration Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. The majority of his time at the VA was spent in the laboratory, doing histology and assisting pathologists with their examinations. He retired from the Veterans Administration in 1987 after 30 years of service.

Grateful for having shared his life are his children, Mark, Gary (Dawn) and Terry (Julie), all of Sioux Falls, SD; his grandchildren, Jay (Jessica) of Volga, SD, Angela (Cody) Hall of Surprise, AZ, Michael, Nicholas, and Justin, all of Sioux Falls, SD, Megan Wulf of Omaha, NE and Taylor of Sioux Falls, SD; four great grandchildren; his brothers, Vernon of Mitchell, SD, Walter of Plankinton, SD; his sisters, Mickey Darrough of Sioux City, IA, Pauline Greene of Plankinton, SD, Olive Fravenfelder of Rapid City, SD and Beitrus Wulf of Stickney, SD; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette who died on March 1, 2008; his parents; a daughter-in-law, Sharon; his brothers, Albert, Garland, Lawrence and Henry; and his sisters, Elaine Edinger, Henreitta Schuldt-Tille, Violet Morrison and Laura Buck.

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am Friday, April 24th at St. John American Lutheran Church. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00-7:00 pm Thursday, April 23rd at Miller Funeral Home, Main Avenue location.

Mr Wulf was my softball coach when I was a kid. Always a nice pleasant nature ( need that when coaching kids ) Years later I worked at the VA and would see him in the halls, he still remembered me and was just as nice as always. Even at te VA I called him Mr Wulf... a sign of respect for my "Coach"...my thoughts and prayers to your family Sincerely, Kelly Wiese
