Philip Gibson Obituary

Philip J. Gibson

1922-2013 Mr. Philip J. Gibson, 90, died Wednesday January 23, 2013 in Pittsfield at the home of his daughter Carol Link.

He was born in New York City on September 12, 1922, the son of David and Lee Moses Gibson.

His interest in art began as a young man and pursued his studies at the Art Students League and the Academie de La Grande Chaumiere in Paris France. Throughout his life, Philip had a love of the visual arts exploring graphic design, typography and cartooning however, his main passion was creating collage and mixed media work. He has had several one-man shows through-out the years: the Wells Gallery in Lenox, the Lenox Athenaeum, Humming Bird Gallery in Rhinebeck, N.Y., Key Gallery in Pawling, N.Y., and many others in Connecticut, San Diego, Calif., Salem, Mass., and New York City to name a few. He has also had several group exhibitions at sites such as the Chrysler Corporation, Fairleigh Dickenson University, and many others. His work is in collections at the Xerox Corporation, Richardson Vicks Corporation, Hewlett Packard and others.

Mr. Gibson was a US Air Force Veteran of World War II.

He leaves his three children, Carol Link and her husband Jerry and their children Hannah and David, with whom he made his home, Jenny Ficks and her husband Leo and their children, Julie and Sara and a son, Michael Gibson and his children Leah and Rachel.

Philip was a remarkable human being who personified the love of the creative spirit, had a great sense of humor and touched people's hearts where ever he went. We will miss you.

Funeral Notice: In keeping with Mr. Gibson's wises, funeral services will be private and at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Care in the Berkshires, care of the Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North St., Pittsfield MA 01201, in his memory.
