MERRITT KOTIN Obituary

Merritt R. Kotin, passed away at 88 years young. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Maxene, 2 daughters, a son-in-law, 3 loving grandchildren and sister Lois. He attended Northwestern undergrad, Princeton University and Northwestern Law School. In 1949 he was appointed administrative assistant to US Cong. A.J. Sabath. In 1952 he was admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court. Kotin returned to Chicago (1953) from Washington DC and became supervising personal injury defense attorney for the Chicago Transit Authority and later real estate department director. Following his retirement from the CTA he was IL. Drug and Alcohol Dept. administrative hearing officer and was also arbitrator for the Cook County Circuit Court. Military History: In 1942 he enlisted in the Infantry, fought and was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge for which he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Bravery. Later he was Captain in the Judge Advocate General (JAG). He served as board member of Congregation BJBE, Lincolnwood Public Library and the Human Relations committee of Lincolnwood.

My condolences to the entire Kotin family. I worked with Merritt at the CTA and was one of his legal secretarys'. He was a great guy.

I worked with Merritt at the CTA and remember his great sense of humor. He used to carry a little notebook in his shirt pocket where he wrote good jokes he had heard. My condolences to his family.
