Ralph L. Sommer

Ralph L. Sommer SchenectadyRalph L. Sommer, 87, Schenectady, NY, died peacefully October 22nd at Ellis Hospital. Ralph was born September 10, 1925 in St. Paul, Missouri, the middle son of 11 children. He served in the navy during WWII as a Seabee and was stationed in New Guinea for a time. After the war, Ralph attended St. Louis University and received a bachelor's degree in accounting. He then worked for General Electric Company where he completed the financial management program and had a long and successful career with that company. Ralph married Jane Sommer of Belleville, Illinois in October of 1952. They moved to Schenectady in 1959 where their fourth and last child was born. Ralph was an avid golfer and a long time member of the Edison Club. He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Jane, and is survived by his daughters, Carol Walker, her husband, Gary and their children, Kate and Michael Walker, Mary Sommer and Terry Hutson and their children, Rebecca, Elizabeth, and Mark Hutson, Stacey and John DiGrande and their children, Nathan, Steven, and Carly DiGrande, and Patti Hilliker, her husband, Randy and their children, Laura and Lynne Hilliker; his sisters, Marie Wilson, Anita Wehde, and Viola Dunard, all from Missouri. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Southern Adirondack Library System. Calling hours will be held Thursday, October 25, 2012 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd., Glenville. A service will be held at 9 a.m. Friday, October 26 at Immaculate Conception Church, Route 50, Glenville.
