Sally Mitchell Obituary
Barefoot Bay, FL
Sally Ann Mitchell, 71, known to family and friends as "Sam", died Wednesday, August 7, 2013, after a brief illness. Those with her at the end fancy she reclaimed her venerated freedom with a grey horse, a guitar and a beloved dog, Molly.
Hers is the tale of a life well lived: She was born February 19, 1942, in Cincinnati, Ohio to Julia Cartwright and Mark L. Mitchell. Her family moved to Florida in 1947. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Florida in 1963 then jettisoned off to join the Austin music scene of the 1960s.
Ms. Mitchell raced sports cars and made music with famous people. She worked on the Alaskan pipeline, showed prize-winning Afghans and rode quarter horses in reining competition. Her hobby was her life; her life, a bucket list.
Ms. Mitchell leaves behind a sister, Elizabeth; brother, Mark; step-brother, Patric Leedom; a corral of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and a trail of broken hearts stretching from Florida to Texas.
A memorial service will be held at the home of Elizabeth Mitchell on August 20, 2013, 4:00 PM.

Just met Sam this year at pool exercises. She was a grand lady. I will miss her wit. I can image the great stories of her life. I am glad she had such a happy one. I know Elizabeth will miss her much. My heart goes out to her family and friends.

I remember SAM from the old flag and racing days in Austin. We would sometimes have coffee together.

"Sam" became an instant favorite when she and Liz came to the morning aerobic pool class. We have since been dubbed " the mermaids" by SAMs family and friends. Sam made many in her new community.I am proud to have known her with her quick sence of humor and open heart.
