Vivian Mickens Obituary
Vivian R. Mickens, 76, of Hartford, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at St. Francis Hospital. She is loved and mourned by her husband, L.B. Mickens; five children, Benjamin Franklin Pitts, Jr. (Sandra), William Anthony Pitts (Velma), James Marty Pitts (Carmen), Crystal Doneen Pitts (Ray), and Craig Andrew Pitts (Maureen); three stepchildren, 24 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, a best friend Virginia White and a host of extended family and friends. Vivian is now reunited with her mother and step-father, Sadie and Willie Baker and her two beloved sons, Ronald Eugene Pitts and Barrett Lamont Applewhite. She retired from Stanadyne Automotive in 2003 and was a daughter of the Alpha Temple #83 and a member of the McKinney-King Post #142 Auxiliary both of Hartford. Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 17, 2015 from 6 - 8 p.m. with an Elks Service beginning at 7 p.m. at Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor, CT 06095. A homegoing service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Ebenezer Temple, 2194 Main St., Hartford with burial following in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Friends may also call at the church on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. prior to her service. Floral tributes are welcome as well as memorial donations to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, 74 Batterson Park Rd # 2, Farmington, CT 06032. To send notes of condolence, please visit www.carmonfuneralhome.com.

"There is no love like the love of a mother"... Too my family the Pitts and the Mickens I want to extend my deepest heartfelt condolences too all of you during this sad and trying time. Just know "mommy/grandma" was loved and respected by many because of her warm and loving nature and infectious smile. And though she is gone in the physical she will never be gone in spirit. And deep in my heart I know she will rest peacefully because she is with her baby Lamont (Barrett) who I know greeted at the "gates" with open arms and a huge hug and kiss..A true matriarch is how I will remember her because of the love and tenderness she gave anyone she cared for...
