Peter Bunce Obituary

Peter Bunce died at his home in Hong Kong. Raised on a farm, he died in an exotic city. Peter held a BA from the University of Washington and spoke several languages. Before moving to Van Nuys, Peter taught English in Japan. He lived in Van Nuys for 25 years, teaching English to foreign students. While living in the Valley, Peter cared for his ill wife and his father. Peter's membership in Toastmasters International was at the heart of his life. This club welcomes members of every gender, culture, religion, race and social status. Peter was a member of the Salesmastery Toastmasters in Sherman Oaks and Ernest Speakers Toastmasters in Burbank. He belonged to seven other Toastmasters Clubs. Peter joined Kowloon Toastmasters in 2013. Wherever he lived, Peter affected others with a genuine and unselfish desire to teach skills to improve lives. Peter died as he lived, in the service of others. Peter will be missed by his sister, Dorothy Bunce, of Las Vegas and friends throughout the world.

Peter, you were one of my best friends and I miss you greatly. You were loved by many for your kindness and wonderful spirit, and the world was better for having you as a part of it. You gave so much of yourself, and were always ready to help, and so often with a sense of humor. You added so much to my life, and I will always thank you for it.

It was a distinct pleasure to know Peter Bunce. I met him in Toastmasters and was inspired by his infectious desire for Toastmasters. He shared his knowledge and it was much appreciated. I will always remember when Peter would accomplish another accreditation and he would run down to receive his award. Peter's contagious energy aroused my desire to accomplish my goals. He was a unique and smart fellow.

Some who read this will realize that it is copied from my Facebook post. Try as I may, I just cannot come up with anything else that conveys my thoughts any better than this, so; "The human mind is a complex and amazing thing. The incredible power of the brain is something that I don't think any man has ever been able to fully understand, though countless have tried. I believe that a very few people in this life are gifted with the ability to tap into certain areas which the rest of us, (for reasons which only our Heavenly Father knows), have been denied access to. Sadly, on October 17th, this world lost one such person. I knew Peter Bunce from Kindergarten on, although, as adults, we both followed our individual paths and as a result, lost touch for many years. Even so, when we hooked up again, right here on Facebook, you'd have thought that it had been mere days since our last chat. A friend to Peter, was a friend for life. Looking back, it seems as if he used a great deal of his "gift" to find the good in things, in situations, and in people, which the rest of us were somewhat blinded to. I remember that, although he would go out of his way to avoid most trouble, he could not stand to see a helpless or innocent person being wronged. More than once, I myself was witness to this phenomenon with him. If he saw someone being bullied or taken advantage of, he wouldn't hesitate for a moment, to go toe to toe, wit to wit, or even hand to hand in their defense. There are people in this world, due mostly to ignorance, who will poke fun at things, (or at people), that they don't understand. Sadly enough, Peter did fall prey to this type of thing, but he never really seemed to let it get him down. At least not outwardly. I really don't think that I ever fully understood him myself, but what I did know, without a doubt, was that he had a good heart, and was an amazing friend. That alone, was more than enough for me. Peter, my dear friend, you will be sorely missed. ** Den 3 will rule forever! **"

Peter was a dear and compassionate human being. He was truly an angel living on this planet. All that knew him were touched and blessed with an incedible human being. I knew Peter thruugh Toastmasters. He and I were friends on Linkedin and were connected off and on over the last several years. He had just reached out to me in the last two months as I was trying to help another person who wanted to work abroad and teach English.

He was truly a humble human being who lived life to the fullest. We often ask in times of sorrow why do the kindest, most compassionate people leave this life so young. What can each of do to take a small part of Peter gifts and carry it on within all of us to keep his memory alive. He will truly be missed. My hearts and prayers go out to him family and friends.

He was so welcoming when I first joined Toastmasters and he was always there as a friend and a mentor. I learned so much from Peter and I admire his sense of community and his all-inclusive nature. He was a friend to everyone. I'm heartbroken at his loss ... he will be deeply missed and he was loved by everyone. Sleep with the angels Peter - they are rejoicing at your arrival.
