Daniel Inskeep Obituary

Daniel C. Inskeep

MARION: Daniel C. Inskeep, age 90, of Marion, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday evening, December 7, 2011, surrounded by his family at his home.

Daniel was born in Columbus, Ohio, on September 9, 1921, the son of Earl and Laura Inskeep. He was a graduate from North High School. On August 30, 1947, Daniel was united in marriage to Mary Pike. Daniel and Mary have been blessed with 64 years of marriage.

An American Hero, Daniel proudly served his county in the United States Army. He was in the 29th Division of the Army during World War II and in the 37th Ohio National Guard Division during the Korean War. He was a decorated soldier, earning several medals and awards throughout his nearly 14 years in the Armed Forces including the Bronze Star. In 1953, he was Honorably Discharged from the army retiring as a Major.

In 1967, Dan moved his family to Marion where he owned and operated Inskeep Oldsmobile. He was also the first dealer in Ohio to start a Datsun dealership. Growing up during The Great Depression, Daniel knew the importance of hard work and the value of a dollar. He was a frugal man, "the Budget King", and had a commanding presence about him. His devoted work ethic and drive made him a great provider for his family.

Daniel also made time to invest in his community. He served on the Palace Board, the YMCA, Rotary Club, was President of the Country Club, member of the VFW and was a past Commodore of the Scioto Boat Club. In his retirement, he coached golf at Pleasant High School.

Daniel made time for the important things in life, family and friends. He and Mary loved the sound of Big Band Music and danced the nights away. The Wednesday Nighters was his group of buddies that got together every week to play cards and later they would meet up with all of the wives for dinner. Daniel also had an appreciation for the old Western shows and also enjoyed trains.

His memory will be forever cherished by his wife, Mary; his children: Georgia (Steve) Hensley of Columbus and Dori Traynham of Marion; his daughter-in-law Linda Inskeep of Encinitas, CA; grandchildren: Anita Hensley, Scott (Lori) Hensley, Lauren (Donald) Miralle, Daniel C. Inskeep, III and Lindsay Greer; six great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Daniel is preceded in death by his parents; his son Daniel C. Inskeep, II and seven siblings.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 11, 2011 at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 East Center St., Marion from 2PM to 4PM; Funeral services will immediately follow at 4PM with Rev. Robert Howard officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Marion General Hospital Hospice

In the early 80s, just after Marilyn and I were married, I had to get a grown-up job I applied at Inskeep Oldsmobile, GMC, Nissan, in the body shop, Dan hired me on the spot, He let me know right there what was expected an...d what he wanted from me and I never let him down, He gave me my first real job!!and started my career. We made a lot of money, had a lot of good times. When I applied at Tri Rivers Career Center many years later, I needed his signature, for verification of previous employment, he was coming back from Florida and made me wait a few days for him to personally sign it, and again he let me know right there what was expected and what he wanted from me, and that he was very proud of me, I will never forget that, I will truly miss him. Georgia, Steve, Anita, & Scott,
We are so very sorry for your loss, but how wonderful to have your Dad (and Grandpa) for so many years. We appreciated reading all that was shared in the obituary. He certainly led a full life with many notable accomplishments. We regret that we cannot be present on Sunday, but hope you will accept our sincere expression of love and sympathy.
