Orin Bullert Obituary

Orin Dean Bullert
1927 - 2014
Resident of Belmont, California

Orin Dean Bullert, 86, was born July 5, 1927 in Webster, South Dakota and passed away in Red Bluff, CA on February 15, 2014, surrounded by loved ones. Brought up on his parent's farm with eight other siblings, he traveled to a one-room school from first through eighth grades on a horse-drawn buggy. After high school, he traveled to Denver, where he worked as a carpenter, and then moved to California, where two of his sisters lived, and worked in the shipyards as a welder while attending Stanford University. He then joined the Navy and was in pilot training when WWII ended. He went on to graduate from Union College in Schenectady, NY.
Orin founded Bullert Construction and built dozens of homes in the Bay Area, retiring at age 48. He loved travel and traversed the world on dozens of cruises. Some of his favorite places were Alaska, the beautiful home he built in Belmont CA surrounding a massive rock, and always, South Dakota.
Orin was predeceased by his parents, Mary (Brakhage) and Otto Bullert, his brothers Byron and David, and his sisters Vivian Shea, Margery Kral, and June Honey. He is survived by his wife of 21 years Linda, his sisters Betty Coghill, Beverly Swanson, and Marilyn Rarick, his children Dean (Linda), Richard, Nancy Burrows (Rod), Cathy, Carolyn and their mother Marilyn, his grandchildren Spenser and Landry Burrows, Dakota and Kelly Bullert, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews who adored him.
The phrase "favorite uncle" has been heard many times this week. His quick wit, intelligence, kindness, generosity, and love of family were gifts to us all.
Special thanks to the wonderful staff and caregivers at Lassen House in Red Bluff. Donations should be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation or your favorite charity.

I am very sorry to hear of the passing of Orin. Not only was he a great friend of the family but a great business partner with my Dad, Robert Doll. Dad and I had so many great memories of Orin coming by the house after a hard day of work and boating together down at Coyote Point. I worked on some at some housing projects with him and I was always amazed at the amount of work he accomplished in a day's time. Although Dad passed away in 2001 at the age of 91, I am sure He would join me in sending our deepest condolences to Dean and all the family. I wouldn't be surprised that both Dad and Orin are now having drinks together at the Elk's in heaven!
