George William Luko

George William Luko, 83, of Somerset Township, Eighty Four, died Friday afternoon, June 20, 2014, in Monongahela Valley Hospital.
He was born February 15, 1931, in Coal Center, a son of Emil "Slim" and Stella Szymoski Luko.
Mr. Luko was a 1950 graduate of California Community High School, where he was a member of the football team that won the 1949 WPIAL Class A championship.
A veteran, he served from 1952-1956 with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict as an airman first class.
He attended the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics.
For 30 years, he was a jet aircraft mechanic for US Airways.
Mr. Luko was a member of Washington-Greene County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame and the NCAA Wrestling Coaches Association. He was a former WPIAL wrestling official. He was also a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.
His wife, Judy Neason Luko, survives. They were married in Garwood Baptist Church, Daisytown.
Also surviving are children Mary Vann Frazier of St. Simons Island, Ga., Joni Vann (Barry) of Bentleyville, Judi Luko of St. Simons Island and Eric Luko of Bentleyville; grandchildren Lauren and Andrew Poye; great-granddaughter Ellie Rose Kasula; sisters Rose Marshalek (Rudy) of Scenery Hill and Diane McCallum (Dick) of Belle Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are brothers Ron and Dan Luko.
Friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville, 724-239-2255, where a service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, with the Rev. David Watts officiating. Interment will follow in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township.
