Edgar Rutledge Obituary

Edgar Marvin Rutledge, 92, passed away Sunday afternoon, November 2, 2014 at his home in Loveland. He was born April 10, 1922 in Brock, Nebraska and was the second in a family of two sons and two daughters. He lived in Nebraska during his early childhood years, moving briefly to Detroit at the age of six where his father gained employment as a machinist for Ford Motor Company. He graduated from Brock High School, Nebraska in 1940. Two years later, he married Ruth Darlene Brown, his high school sweetheart. They had three children prior to moving to Loveland in 1951, where their fourth child was born. Edgar was a beloved patriarch. His 68-year marriage to Ruth saw a flourishing family that extended to four children, 9 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. In the late 1960s he founded and served as President of Rutledge Steel Company, a steel fabricator in Loveland employing up to 100 workers. The company supplied structural steel for notable projects such as Republic Plaza, Denver's tallest building; McKee Medical Center, Hewlett Packard facilities and reconstruction of US 34 following the 1976 Big Thompson flood. He was an active member of First Baptist Church in Loveland and Loveland Rotary Club. He served on Loveland's City Council. He loved travelling, golf and a wide variety of outdoor recreational activities. In retirement, he and Ruth wintered in Mesa, Arizona for nearly twenty years. He is survived by his sister, Helen Kermoade (Arthur) of Anacortes, WA; sister, Marian Elwonger (Dewey) of Lynnwood, WA; children, Douglas (Sheila), Terry (Devera) of Loveland, Mary (Bill) Hein of Berthoud and Ted (Rhonda) of Parker; grandchildren, Jim (Stacey) and Ryan (Stefani) Wiest, Sean (Christine), Aaron (Kristi) and Austin Rutledge, Laura (Andy) Davis, Heidi (Bob) Whitney, Taylor (Nick) Downing and Brittany (Jeff) Beatty; great-grandchildren, Ty, Alexa, Grant, Mason and Drew Wiest, Kylie and Tyler Davis, Cambria and Cayden Whitney, Christian and Hunter Beatty, Amanda and Skyla Rutledge, and Hudson, Rowan and Brecken Downing. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Darlene Rutledge; mother, Mary Eunice Rutledge; father, Everett George Rutledge and brother, George Rutledge, who was lost during pilot training in World War II. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, November 14 at the First Baptist Church in Loveland, 1003 W. 6th St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pathways Hospice or First Baptist Church of Loveland in care of Kibbey Fishburn Funeral Home.
