As 2019 closes, I often reflect. In this moment I remember Lt. Prasnicki. In the early morning, spending time with our families before we departed Bamberg for Afghanistan, it was dark, chilly and full of emotion. I vividly remember the smile on his face as I introduced him to my family that morning. He is and forever will be a true gentleman, leader and hero. My heart will always carry a little extra weight with his loss. My very best wishes to his family, and I hope this note finds you all well. He is and always will be remembered, and it is my honor to have spent time with him. SKY SOLDIERS! SFC(ret) "Doc" Gibson 4/319th AFAR

Dear Emily, The best I could think of to do was to relate Chase's death to several of my teenage students..and also had a quiet moment with my Grandson (age 16.) I asked them if they ever thought about our service men and women who commit their lives to keep them free. I suppose because of their tender age and happy lives they did say "no." So, I asked them to please remember Chase often and the sacrifice he made. With somber faces they said they would. Emily, honey I cry for you and your family every day. Love always Aunt Dawnmarie

As another soldier is buried, let us remember that his cause was for honor, duty, and country. The ultimate sacrifice that this lieutenant so humbly aspired too was for the service of our nation. We must never forget him or the thousands of others who expressed their patriotism by giving up their life to the cause of freedom and liberty.

I know there are no words to say at this time, except how sorry that I am. My thoughts and prayers are with you always. Stephen will never be forgotten.

For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I'm home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I'm only a civilian
And I don't even know if it's allowed

But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

For those missing in action;
for those who didn't make it home.
I know you're in God's presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.

I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.

I salute you .

Debbie and family,

Our community is small so we claim each other's child as our own. Thank you for giving us Chase. He embodied all that we wish our children to be.

Chase was charismatic and served as an inspiration and role model for everyone he came in contact with. Often he would stop by the office to say hi and charm me with his smile. I consider myself lucky to have known him, and proud that he is one of ours.

My heart aches for you. I hope prayers and cherished memories ease some of your pain.

Sincerely,

The world is a better place because of Chase Prasnicki and our world changed on the day he left it. Those who serve understand the honor and commitment; others honor those who serve. It is an honor to say I knew Chase and and even greater privilege to say he was family!

When we lose someone like Chase we often ask "where do we find such men".

WE find these men in the same places that Washington found them, men who understood a diaphonous concept called freedom. The right to choose. The right to say “no more”.

They come from the same place that Lincoln found them. He asked for 300,000 thousand more, and 500.000 answered. In the darkest days of rebellion, when one side clamoured for peace at any price, these same men voted for 4 more years, kowing full well the price that had been paid, and the bill that would come due soon enough.

The same place bore the men who remembered a debt long ago, and repaid it willingly in the Great War. France sent several thousand under Lafayette to help us win our nation, and we sent hundreds of thousands with but four words upon their lips “Lafayette, we are here.”

A generation later, the sons and grandsons of those same men strode ashore through bloody surf at Normandy to ensure that our sister, our ‘Femme D'Liberte” would not be lost to the darkness of facism.

Now we see again the same manger of liberty send forth others who would help an oppressed people, who would risk thier very lives for that most gossamer of ideals, freedom.

They come from everywhere. Although there are many who have forgotten what price liberty requires, there are enough who understand the cost. Those who look around and say “There is something here worth defending, something worth risking my life to defend, to protect, to give another day to.

And that is what they do. They give their tomorrows for our todays. They risk their futures so that peoples they may not ever know, might have a chance to experience what we have, the right to try. To perhaps fail, perhaps suffer, but to at least try, and to try on a level field.

It is, perhaps, our greatest blessing that, in each generation, we find these men and women. Or, rather, that they find us.

With the world today you see a lot of young men running about with no purpose in their lives; clearly with this young man it was not the case. An honorable young hero lost his life in a foriegn country doing what he was prepared to do because of the love in his heart for strangers like me & my family that he never even met. I would like to just lift him up with heartfelt appreciation today. To the family; you are in my thoughts and prayers. I know no words can ease your sorrow right now, but. To The Family of 1st Lt. Stephen Prasnicki:
I am hoping that in this time of grief over the loss of Chase, you will take pride in knowing what a true leader, role model, and hero he was to all he encountered. His spirit will live on in the hearts of many, including the residents of Rockbridge County. Thoughts and prayers go out to your entire family now, and always.
