Howard Trimpe Obituary

Trimpe, Howard P. 1922 - 2016. Howard P. Trimpe, 93, passed away on January 11, 2016 at his home in St. Joseph, Missouri. He was born in Havana, Illinois to Edwin and Marie (Behrends) Trimpe. Howard married Shirley Hoeger in 1944. In 1947, they were the first married couple to graduate from Illinois College. Howard received a second Bachelor's degree in Journalism from the University of Missouri Columbia in 1948. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942 and continued flying for the Air Force for 30 years, mainly out of Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. He was a decorated veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the War in Vietnam. After Shirley's death in 1992, Howard married Goldia Schopfer in 2000 and relocated to St. Joseph, Missouri from St Louis. Howard was an honorable man, loved and respected by many for his sense of duty and commitment, his faith, his perseverance and his dedication to country, friends and family. Friends saw him as a wise gentleman and appreciated his congeniality. He was a lifelong baseball fan, and he spent many happy hours at Lake of the Ozarks, fishing, boating and skiing. After retirement he traveled extensively. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in St Joseph, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the National World War II Glider Pilots Association. He was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother, Robert, his wife, Shirley and son, Robert. Survivors include wife, Goldia Trimpe, daughters Lynn Trimpe, Gail Trimpe-Morrow (S. Rex) and Susan Stockard; and grandchildren, Elizabeth Morrow, Jamison Morrow, Eric Stockard and Cari Stockard. Services: Memorial Service at 1:00 p.m. on January 18, preceded by visitation at 12:00 p.m., both at First Lutheran Church in St. Joseph, Missouri. Interment at 1:30 p.m. January 19 at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, American Legion or First Lutheran Church. Online guest book and obituary at www.meierhoffer.com.
