Edgar Smith Obituary

Edgar Robert "Rob" Smith Nov. 17, 1967 - April 2, 2014 MISHAWAKA - Edgar Robert "Rob" Smith of Mishawaka returned to the arms of his loving Creator on April 2, 2014. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Gene Smith; his maternal grandmother, Mary Kathryn (Roche) Folk; his paternal grandparents, Harold A. and Virginia (Milliken) Smith; and a cousin, R. Ryan Folk. His daughter, Alyssa Smith of Mishawaka, survives him. He is also survived by his mother, Linda Myers of Vevay, Indiana; stepfather, William Davis of Vevay, Indiana; step-father, Charles Myers, M.D., of Mishawaka; step-mother, Alicia Myers of Mishawaka; grandfather, Robert E. Folk of Granger; brother, David (Cindy) Smith of Mishawaka; sister, Kathryn Best of Osceola; brother, Harold Gene Smith II of Mishawaka; brother, Andrew Smith of Mishawaka; brother, Christopher (Katie) Myers of Elkhart; brother, Matthew Myers of Osceola; sister, Autumn Myers of Osceola; niece, Seana (Austin) Cribbs of Mishawaka; niece, Peyton Middleton of Osceola; niece, Hannah Stark of Mishawaka; nephew, Gavin Myers of Osceola; nephew, Aidan Myers of Elkhart; nephew, Ethan Smith of Mishawaka; nephew, Evan Smith of Mishawaka; nephew, Brayden Stark of Mishawaka; nephew, Isiah Stark of Mishawaka; great-niece, Elizabeth Cribbs of Mishawaka; great-nephew, Jaxon Cribbs of Mishawaka; as well as countless aunts, uncles and cousins whom he loved dearly. A special fondness is extended to aunts Kay White of Mishawaka and Margaret Marnocha of Elkhart, as well as an uncle, Robert C. Folk of Mishawaka. "Rob," as he was known to all of his friends and family, was a rock -- a real salt of the earth, who was never afraid to break a sweat for those he cared for and strangers alike. Rob was the guy you called in the middle of the night when your car broke down. Rob was the guy you asked for advice when you needed to buy a new furnace or water heater, and Rob was the guy who would help you carry it down the stairs and install it. Rob was a 1986 graduate of Penn High School. He loved cheering on the University of Michigan football team, the Miami Dolphins, and NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon. He worked at Koontz Wagner Electric and AM General. Rob was especially proud of a letter he received from an American soldier thanking him for the armor Rob had helped install on the Humvee that had saved the soldier's life. Rob was an avid pool player and computer whiz, and he enjoyed spending time with close friends Jimmy Clay, Jay Grant, Jeff Parker and Clynt Smith. He was a giant man with a giant heart who was never afraid to let people know what a kind and caring person he could be. His greatest pride in life came from watching his only child, Alyssa, grow into a beautiful young woman and enter college at Indiana University South Bend. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the E. Robert Smith Memorial Fund at PNC Bank. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, at Hahn Funeral Home, 505 West 8th Street in Mishawaka. A funeral service will be held on April 9 at 11:00 a.m. at the same location.

I worked with Rob at splo. He was a real nice guy. He would take food orders for the royal cafe from fellow workers, and go pick it up at lunch. My thoughts go out to his family at this difficult time, especially his daughter that he often spoke of.
