James JURGENS Obituary

JURGENS, James Ervin "Jim" (Age 65) Of Jerome, passed away Saturday May 11, 2013 in Twin Falls. Jim resided in Jerome, Idaho where he lived with his wife Elizabeth. He was born on January 25, 1948 in Spokane, Washington, the first of six children born to Ervin and Laura Jurgens. Jim was raised on a farm near Deer Park, Washington and attended school in Deer Park. He attended Washington State University and worked for the Washington State Highway Department assigned to surveying and laying out the North Cascade Highway. Jim was drafted by the United States Army in 1967. During this time Jim married his first wife, Linda. He went to basic training at Fort Lewis and went on to NCO training at Fort Benning, Georgia. Jim served in the United States Army as a Sergeant and was stationed at the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) that separates North and South Korea from 1968 to 1969. After returning home, sons Travis and Shawn were born. During this time Jim went to work for Unicom Investments, later relocating to Jerome, Idaho where he assisted his parents at Jerome Floral. Jim also served the citizens of Jerome as a volunteer firefighter, Jerome City Building Inspector, as well as Idaho State Agricultural Inspector. During this time Jim also began a career in Real Estate investments. He enjoyed being busy, so in his spare time he umpired slow pitch softball, baseball and also officiated high school football. Jim also enjoyed coaching little league baseball, and coached teams that both of his sons were on. Hunting with his sons, Travis and Shawn, camping and fishing with family, riding motorcycles, boating, traveling with family and golfing with friends were some of his favorite past times. Jim was married to his current wife Elizabeth in 1997. All who knew him knew about his strong faith and trust in God throughout his entire lifetime. From a young child to his death, his testimony showed his dedication to his belief in God. Furthermore, he recently went to Belize with members of his church assisting in constructing a parsonage. Jim is survived by his wife Elizabeth; son Travis and his wife Gina; their children Kaylie and Kaleb of Oregon; son Shawn, and his children James, Aidon, and Kimber of Spokane, Washington; his parents Ervin and Laura of Boise, Idaho; brother Dan and his wife Janise of Spokane, Washington; sister Connie and her husband Colin of Saint Maries, Idaho; his brother Lonnie and his wife Kasey of Boise, Idaho; sister Debbie and her husband Ron of Spokane, Washington; brother Rocky of Lacey, Washington; stepdaughter Lacey and her children PJ and Gwennyth; and stepdaughter Nichole both of Jerome. Memorials may be made in Jim's name to: First Church of the Nazarene, 1231 Washington St. North, Twin Falls, ID 83301, for the Missionary outreach. Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 PM, Saturday, May 18, 2013, at FARNSWORTH MORTUARY, 1343 SOUTH LINCOLN, JEROME, with Pastor Dave Mowry, officiating. A visitation will begin at 3:00 PM. Interment will take place in the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, Boise, Idaho.
