Patricia GRIFFIN Obituary

GRIFFIN, Patricia Ann (Seaton)

Patricia Ann Seaton Griffin, 63, of Austin, TX went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 23, 2014. She was born to Orville T. and Lillian S. Gooden Seaton in Liberty, TX on December 9th, 1950.

Patricia achieved all of life's significant milestones early. She began reading by age 5, accepted Christ as a child, graduated high school at 16, had two children by 20, divorced, graduated from college, retired in her early 50s and passed away at 63.

Patricia descended from a long-line of distinguished educators. She graduated with highest honors from the mighty Jack Yates High School in Houston, TX and received a BA in Communications from the University of Texas at Austin. She was a Texas Exes Life Member. While a native Houstonian, Patricia made Austin her home.

Patricia was a prolific note writer and a connoisseur of garage sales and thrift stores. She never splurged on herself, but her care packages to her grandchildren numbered in the hundreds. She was a speed-reader. Her book collection numbers in the thousands. She was a frequent visitor of the annual Parade of Homes. She was a dreamer.

In some respects her life's reach exceeded her grasp, but she held on to the Lord's guiding hand and now Jesus leads her to the Promised Land of eternity.

Patricia was a single-mother and raised two children by herself. She led them to Christ, thus fulfilling a mother's most important and sacred obligation. She sat with governors and ambassadors as she watched her children graduate from college and graduate school. She worked, over thirty-years, at Southwestern Bell (AT&T) and held a second job at Sears in Hancock Shopping Center for over 15 years. She was a founding on-air personality with a Gospel music show on KAZI (88.7 FM) - Austin's Community Radio Station. She was a hard worker.

She bought and managed property, traded stocks, collected and sold art, traveled the world, took classes just to learn new things, and researched her family genealogy. She was a thinker and a doer.

Patricia's legacy is rich. Her life was important. She is now at peace.

Her father, Orville T. Seaton, preceded Patricia in death. She is survived by a praying mother, Lillian Gooden Seaton of Houston, TX. Her daughter is Elizabeth Griffin Bert and son-in-law Calvin T. Bert of Pflugerville, TX. Her son is William L. Griffin and daughter-in-law Christine K. Griffin of Round Rock, TX. Her cherished grandchildren are Jamal and Jawan Bert, and Chase, Rose, and Gage Griffin. Patricia had one sister, Karen Seaton Brooks of Pearland, TX and two brothers Michael O. Seaton of Houston TX and Revley P. Seaton of Washington, DC. She is fondly remembered by a host of neighbors and friends.

There will be an open visitation at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 North Lamar Blvd. Austin, TX, Monday, March 31, 2014 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Patricia's final resting place will be next to her beloved grandmother Willie Taylor Gooden, at Oakwood Cemetery in Hempstead, TX.

In lieu of flowers and gifts the family requests donations be made to the Patricia Seaton Griffin Memorial Endowed Scholarship awarded annually to single parents attending the University of Texas at Austin. Please send to: University Development Office, The University of Texas at Austin, PO Box 7458, Austin, TX 78713.

I am saddened by Pat's death. We worked together at SWBT
(AT&T) for many years. We were Service Reps at Huntland way back in the late 70's. She worked hard, she was dedicated to raising her children & making sure they had a well rounded exposure to art, music, and culture with a strong commitment to education. I hate to hear of her passing. May she rest in peace & know "Well done, Pat, well done! " . My prayers are for healing and comfort for her family.

To the family of Pat, our prayers are with you and your family. Pat and I grew up together ion fifth ward on Calles. As children, we had great time planning ball and swimming in the Park. I always made fun of my childhood times to other always saying, "We had it made as children, because we could boost of having our a swimming pool, tennis court and ball park in our front yard." what a joy it was, your mother, sister and grandmother will be missed.

I worked with Pat at SBC. I loved her-Her presence always made my days a little brighter. We shared laughter, and tears. She was remarkable in many ways. My heart is with you in your sorrow as we celebrate her new life with our Lord in Heaven.
