William Curtis Obituary

William "Bill" Curtis

Madison, TN

On April 1, 2014, his prayers were answered. For quite some time, he has been longing to be reunited with his wives, Frances Willette and Jean Bowling; sister, Betty Josephine; brother, Lloyd; mother, Sadie Evalina; son, Thomas Ray, and the many others that left him during his 90 years.

Born July 13, 1923 to Neeley Marion and Sadie Evalina Curtis of Prarie Grove, AR. Enlisted on May 7, 1943 with the 404th Platoon US Marine Corps. Where his duties consisted of Amphibian Tractor Driver. Served in the Asiatic Pacific area; Marshall Islands; Soloman Islands and the Marianas Islands. Participated in action against the enemy on Kwajalein Atoll in Guam and it was there that he was wounded and earned the Purple Heart medal at the rank of Sergeant (TW).

In 2006, he celebrated 50 years as a Mason with the Masonic Lodge #762. Employed at Hippodrome Motors before being hired with the Metro Davidson County Sheriff's Department. Retiring in 1991 with 18 ½ years. One of his favorite hobbies was bowling. Traveling in leagues across the states bringing home trophy after trophy. Baptized in 2007 at Sycamore Creek. He lived "down in the bend" (Neely's Bend in Madison) for over 50 years. Gaining friendships that lasted until his last breath. He then moved to Maybelle Carter and the to Grace Manor Assisted Living.

He is survived by a son, Terry Michael (Linda) Curtis; a daughter, Deborah Faye (Ray) Wilson; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family will visit with friends Friday, April 4, 2014 from 4 until 8 p.m., at Spring Hill Funeral Home. Services will be conducted on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 11 a.m., at the Historic Spring Hill Mausoleum, with Bro. David Royalty officiating.

Later in life, his favorite past-time was dancing. Slow dancing. It was his way of being able to hold a lady close and everyone that knew him-knows he loved the ladies.

Special thanks to his "extended family" at Post 88, Legends and the City Limits Band. Thank you for being such a bright spot for his lonely heart. Thanks to his friends at Maybelle Carter all the volunteers that participate in the Music City Honor Flight. We were grateful that he was able to go on one of your flights. To the Staff and volunteers with Alive Hospice to the staff at Grace Manor Assisted Living: words cannot describe the gratitude for your compassion and care that you gave our father. You each will be rewarded with jewels in your crown when you get to Heaven.
