Martin McAnally Obituary

McAnally, Martin D. "Pete"

Martin Davis "Pete" McAnally II, 61, our beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend passed away unexpectedly in his home in Rio Rancho Friday June 12, 2015.

He was born in San Angelo, Texas to the late Fred and Margaret McAnally.

Pete was a devoted husband to his wife of 10 years, Nancy Dunning McAnally and a dedicated father to James McAnally and Nyna Dunning. He is survived by his sisters Barbara Gross (Larry) of Brookesmith, TX, Alice Ogden (Mike) of Brentwood, CA, and Ann Avitia of Las Vegas, NV.

Pete attended Boron High School (CA), University of New Mexico, served in the US Air Force, graduated from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and was an electronic technician for 38 years most recently with Intel. Pete made the Albuquerque/Rio Rancho area his home for last 44 years. Pete was a talented and respected musician playing drums and vibraphone for numerous bands in the Albuquerque area. His other talents and interests were many including unicycling, skydiving, world traveling, photography, and avid reading of history and biographies. Poker and craft beer were also important to him.

Once a friend always a friend, Pete never gave up on anyone. Instead of flowers, we request you do an unexpected, unsolicited good deed "for Pete's sake."

I played in a really good guitar, piano, tenor sax, drums jazz quartet with Pete at UNM. We lost contact as life went on. He was a very seriously talented drummer but, really, right now what I remember most is his basic and genuine kindness. I just saw this obituary and wanted to say goodbye, even if its separated by years from his passing. All the very best hopes and wishes to his wife and family.

We were skydiving friends. Pete photographed our wedding and even played with the band that night. We had a lot of great times with him, and are so sorry for your loss.

I liked Pete in High School. Besides being a great drummer I'll always remember his extreme enthusiasm in anything he was involved in.

I am one of Pete's musician friends. We played together with the late Rex Warren and also did a few gigs as a duet. A fine musician and good friend. He will be missed.

I was saddened to hear this news. I knew Pete in his Boron High School Days and have great memories of his talent and humor. He brought a different vibe to this small desert town and I regret not staying in better touch with him. My condolences to the family and all who knew him. Our lives were greater by knowing and loving Pete. Shelley (Pratt) Keller-Gage
