Virginia Ketterman Obituary

Virginia Maria Ketterman died May 18, 2011.

She was born May 20, 1920, in Madison, Ill. to Denita (Duffey) and James Willoughby.

Maria has five children: Carol Ann Bayer of Festus, Mo., Roberta Anna Maria Gravatt of Auburn, Calif., James Allen Wighaman of Wimberly, Texas, Dennis Shawn Wighaman of Georgetown, Texas, and Kevin Tracy James of Anchorage, 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Willoughby of Festus, Mo.; one niece; and very special friends, Tami and Jeff Barra of Alaska.

Maria grew up in Festus. She moved to Anchorage in 1962, fell in love with the majestic beauty Alaska has to offer and seldom left the comfort of what would become her home for the next 45 years.

In 2007, she relocated to Georgetown, Texas, to be near her sons and their families.

In honor of her wishes, she will return to the state that she loved so dearly. A memorial gathering will be held at a later date at beautiful Kachemak Bay.

"Somewhere, under a bluer sky, In a higher realm than where eagles fly, In a land of beauty beyond our knowing, With trees and flowers and waters flowing, And mountains of unearthly grace, Our loving Lord has made a place. ... And one day, through an opening door, We find that glorious evermore." -- By Ester York Burkholder.
