April Kildaire Obituary

Anchorage resident April Marie Kildaire died April 16, 2011. After struggling with several medical and emotional issues, she chose to take her own life on her 38th birthday.

She was born to William and Karen Marcum on April 16, 1973, in Lima, Ohio. April came to Alaska with Mom, Dad, and older sister Laurie when her father was stationed here in 1976. She attended Ocean View Elementary, Hanshew, Service High School and then graduated in Ohio from Bluffton High School. April lived in Alaska several times and was stationed here with her husband Michael in 2009 with the U.S. Army. April was living with friends Bob and Robin Radlein at the time of her death. April's passions were fantasy gaming with her many friends and playing with her cat "Mort." She also enjoyed reading and sketching.

April is survived by her father, William Marcum, of Tucson, Ariz.; mother, Karen Gaines; stepfather, David Gaines; sister, Laurie Tanner; stepsisters, Sarah and Susanna Gaines, all from Anchorage; and her estranged husband, Michael Kildaire, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson.

April's last thoughts were of others, and the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to homeless shelters. No formal service will be held.

I have fond memories of Laurie's little sister April. We grew up together and my heart goes out to her family. No one can really understand the painful choices we all make, even more so the the choice that April felt she needed to make. I hope that time can ease some of your pain. God bless all of April's family. My thoughts are with you.

She was always strong willed and very determined in what ever she did. but her herat ans spirit was tender to others and easily damaged. She always helped others even in the end . We pray she is in the better place.

May God grant you the peace that excels all thought and guard your heart (Philip. 4:7). Your family and friends are in my prayers.

I was a friend and class mate of April at Service High. I am saddened to hear that this has happened. My sympathy is with you. I just lost my dad on the 7th of this month so I am in grieving that loss as well. I hope the best for your family.

April's family has indeed touched the hearts of many who read of her short life and struggles. I am praying fervently for your peace in this season of hope. For our Lord has risen and because of His love, we have hope. God holds a special place for those whose lives were so difficult.

My thoughts are for her mom and family. I know the dragons and beasties, that she is with now, are treating her well. April was a significant part of my teen years. Sometimes, she was the only person that would make me smile. She will always hold a spot in my heart and mind. I just wish that I told her more, while she was here.

April, I always thought you made great decisions by thinking things through with that great mind of yours, (until now). I hope you found the peace you were looking for.

Although we are strangers to your family, our hearts go out to you. April has found peace - but we know that it still leaves an empty spot in your lives & hearts. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.
