Quinn Williams Obituary

Anchorage resident, Cecil "Quin" Williams, 92, passed away on July 16, 2014. Services will be held at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 2222 Tudor Road, Anchorage, AK 99507 on July 22nd at1:00 PM. His children will spread his ashes later in a private ceremony. Cecil was born on March 18, 1922 in Dekalb, MS. Quin served in World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corps with the 55th Troop Carrier Squadron and flew primarily in the south Pacific. Quin achieved a Masters Degree in Mathematics and one week later went to work for Western Geophysical. Quin lived and worked in Alaska from 1957 to 1970. In 2004 Quin and his wife Billie returned home to Anchorage to be near St. Mary's Episcopal Church and their many Alaskan friends as well as their son, Mark. "Dad learned early in life to be resourceful and dedicate himself to success in each new challenge. He enjoyed and thrived at all he experienced in life and fully embraced and loved the community around him. Dad enjoyed reading, gardening, bird watching and fishing, and could talk your ear off including minute detail on virtually any subject, always the mathematician. Dad's life was so full of adventure, friendships and love. He had a true and loyal heart and was always someone you could count on. My favorite description of our dad was by an Algerian man that he worked with. He told me, "Do you know what they say about your dad? He is like bread." I was puzzled of course, so he explained. "This is a very big compliment. It means that he is someone that can be counted on no matter what the circumstances. He will be the same reasonable, honest man in every situation." This, to us, is a very good description of our dad, Quin Williams." He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Billie Williams, son, Mark and Paula Williams and granddaughter Callie; son David and Roberta Williams, grandchildren Marie and Daniel Montgomery; daughter Susie and John Stanley, grand children Austin, Carey and Erica; sister Martha Gay Hunter; and his sister in law Virginia Williams. In lieu of flowers, please consider sending fresh produce, which will be donated to Beans Café following the service, or offering donations to; F.I.S.H, PO Box 111443, Anchorage, AK 99511; St Mary's Thomas Senior Center Fund, 2222 East Tudor Road, Anchorage, AK, 99507.

Dear Billlie, David, Mark and Susie: I am so sorry for the loss of a devoted husband, caring father, and beloved friend to so many. Quin was such a remarkable man and will be missed by people the world over. I know that he and my parents are in heaven discussing the marvelously green grass! And knowing Quin, he is explaining the chemical composition of the fertilizer being used and the proper application method!

Quin had a big warm smile that welcomed you. He was a southern gentleman who shared his life experiences and kept you captivated by his stories. It was his story that stayed with you making it an even more memorable moment. He was a family man and loved Billie. I feel so lucky to have had him in my life, he was a kind soul. Helping him with his garden at St. Mary's was a treat. Quin was a gift and I am going to miss him.
