Marie Talbot Obituary

Marie D. Talbot, 88, passed away on Sept. 19, 2017, at her home.
No services were held per her request. Her cremated remains were interred with her husband at Fort Richardson National Cemetery.
Marie was born in 1929, the year the stock market crashed. She grew up during the Great Depression of the 1930s. Her only sibling, Eugene, was drafted into the Army during World War II. She graduated from Ithaca Public School in 1942, later graduating from East Rockaway High School in 1947. She worked as a telephone operator in New York City in 1950. Marie married Arthur David Talbot on April 7, 1951, at the Cathedral of All Saints in Albany, N.Y. As newlyweds, Marie and Dave drove up the Alcan Highway from New York to Anchorage, Alaska, in February 1952. She joined the parade down 4th Avenue celebrating Alaska's Statehood in January 1959. Marie participated in Alaska's first presidential election in 1960. From 1954-1964, she bore three sons and two daughters. The family lived in Turnagain By The Sea during the Great Alaska Earthquake of 1964. In 1967, the family bought a plot of land on the park strip and built a custom home. That home on 10th Avenue contained an office, where for years Marie acted as her husband's legal secretary. She attended ATZ School of Travel in May 1973, working briefly there. In 1975, she began employment with the Anchorage Telephone Utility retiring through the IBEW in 1994.
Marie was a Girl Scout leader, a KAKM member and a member of the Colonial Village Home Owners Association. She enjoyed playing the piano, flute, collecting dolls, doing stained glass work and playing video games with her grandchildren.
"Mom provided for her family. She finished high school early, combining two years into one in order to go to work supporting her mother. For her children, she went to work full-time in 1974, when her husband's illness made it necessary. She worked split shifts to accommodate caring for her children after school. Through the years, she housed several family members so they could attend college. Our Mom was Dad's nurse through his lengthy illness with cancer. Mom was our selfless, caring and loving matriarch to the end. We all miss and love her very much. Thanks, Mom!"
From her high school yearbook: "Beautiful Hair, Flawless complexion, brisk walk, artistic. Excellent flute player, writes exquisite poetry, Latin Club, Band, National Honor Society."
Marie is survived by children, Michael Talbot, Dave and wife Alice Talbot, Sterling Talbot, and Suzanne Talbot and her husband Brian Hoisington, all of Anchorage, and Diane Talbot and her husband, Thomas Cassesse of Chapin, S.C.; and her grandchildren, Aaron Talbot of Anchorage, Jennifer Sapp of Eugene, Ore., John Talbot of Wasilla, Alaska, Daniel Talbot of Buffalo, N.Y., David Hoisington of Anchorage, Catherine Hoisington of Silver Spring, Md., and Jenny Alger of Anchorage.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Dave; grandson, Adam Talbot and; brother, Eugene Dean.

Sorry to hear of your loss. I was recently blessed to see Marie at Costco not to long ago. Loved working with her at ATU. She was one of my most favorite people to work with. Always so sweet and helpful. She will be missed. Sending love and prayers to you and your loved ones. Sincerely, Grace (Luther) O'Brien
