My memories of Sandy are similar to Rosalie's. I knew Sandy when she lived on the Holloway ranch as a teenager. We were in high school together and spent our free time hunting, hiking, skiing, fishing ... being outdoors was a high priority! The only priority, really. I treasure those memories and will never forget one of the best friends I ever had.

I've known Sandy since she was 12 and one of the most capable young people you could meet. She worked on the ranch milking her cow before and after school, riding horses, and doing any outdoor job that needed to be done. As she grew up she could help with haying or rope a calf. Animals and the outdoor life were her greatest joy. I remember her working for hours to build up strength in her legs for sking. She was always a good student all the way through graduate school in Alaska. One of the first pictures we received from her was with a moose slung in front of her in a canoe. We could see she was right where she belonged. We kept in touch through the years, but I will always regret that my four sons never had more of a chance to really know this remarkable lady who was their Aunt Sandy. I only met Renge' once when Mitzi, Sandy, Leif and she came to visit us in Fargo, ND. The picture I have shows her blowing out 2 candles on a birthday cake. It was the summer of 1972. Lief was a baby then, but I did get to see him again as a young man, who reminded so much of his mom, at my son's house in CA. You both have a heritage of strong, intelligent, passionate women from Mary Lou to Mitzie to Sandy. They cared deeply about family and causes. You never knew your grandfather Paul Holloway as he died in the early 60's, I knew him as a very intelligent kind and giving person. George, I only met you once, but heard about you in Christmas letters or when I talked to Sandy. You were truly perfect together and I know you made her life complete. Thank you for all the care I know you must have given.
The earth has certainly lost one of her best defenders and we who knew and loved her have lost a beautiful friend.

Sandy was one of my first contacts at Denali. At the time she was managing the kennels. Sandy was always quick with a smile and deeply grounded in her natural environment. Her legacy lives on in our memories. Rest in peace dear woman.

Sandy was my Aunt whom I only had the pleasure of talking with a few times in my life. She was the outdoors woman that led a life of true adventure and many times I thought about her and her family (my cousins) at the cabin. With life the way it is, We are sometimes worlds apart and I wish I would have known her better. I know she will be missed by many.

Sandy was a marvelous lady and during the course of their years together, a wonderful companion and friend to my father, George. I am blessed by the time I was able to spend with her. She is a gentle soul and will be loved and missed by many, including me.
