William Mook Obituary

Palmer resident William C. Mook, 68, died July 6, 2010, at Alaska Regional Hospital in Anchorage after an accident on July 5.

He was born in Kankakee, Ill., on May 29, 1942, and moved to Orlando, Fla., in his teens.

He had been an Alaska resident for 30 years. His occupation for most of his life was auto body and restoration.

His passion was drag racing. Bill had a long history with Alaska Raceway Park, driving Grampa's Toy, and assisting with several race crews, most recently the crews of Mark Eslinger and Robert Wilson. "We will all miss him very much," his family wrote.

He leaves his three children: daughter and son-in-law Christina & Tony Caruso of Orlando; daughter, Julia Whitesell of Vermont; and son, William "David" Mook of Palmer; three grandchildren, Anthony Caruso and Christopher Caruso of Orlando, Jessica Thurston of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., and Jeffery Mook of Palmer; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother, Shirley Mook of Orlando; brothers, Robert Mook of Orlando and Jeff and wife Ronelle of Green Bay, Wis.; sisters, Pat and husband Fred Tindall of Hickory, N.C., Lana and husband Chuck Ohle of Orlando; and his ex-wife and friend, Barbara Mook.

He was preceded in death by his father, Adrian Mook; and step-granddaughter, Brittany Langham, who he loved as his own.

Donations to support Bill's family can be sent to Northrim Bank account #7101354962 in the name of William D. Mook, to help with expenses. Any contributions would be gratefully accepted and appreciated.

During the races July 25 at Alaska Raceway Park in Palmer, a celebration of life is planned and a memorial run will be made for Bill, and his ashes will be scattered at the top end of the track via parachute.
