Joseph Midgett Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Aug. 7 to Aug. 8, 2011.
Joseph A. Midgett was born in Morehead City, North Carolina on April 21, 1943 to the late Abraham Lincoln and Annie Mae Midgett.

Joseph graduated from W.S. King High School in Morehead City, North Carolina. He joined Saint Luke Missionary Baptist Church in Morehead at an early age. At the age of eighteen he joined the U. S. Air Force and was eventually stationed at Elmendorf Air Force Base where he received a medical discharge.

Joseph made his home in Anchorage, Alaska where he lived for forty-four years. He joined the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, but since he played the bass guitar and Shiloh had two guitar players, he joined the New Hope Baptist Church where he played the bass guitar until his health failed him.

Joseph A. Midgett leaves to mourn his passing four children: Kirk Downs of Lansing, Michigan; Annie I. Midgett of Anchorage, Alaska; Joseph A. Midgett, Jr. of Morehead City, North Carolina; and Makeesha Midgett-Calhoun and husband Rodney of Ft. Eutis, Virginia. Six siblings: Abraham L. Midgett, Jr. and wife Viola, Indiana W. Kenon, and Alonzo J. White, Jr. and wife Cheryl of Morehead City, North Carolina; Naomi E. White of Bronx, New York; Gwendolyn J. Ross of Brooklyn, New York; and Mary W. Joseph A. Midgett also gave New Hope Baptist Church a wonderful Church Library by providing many books that helped the church membership gain wisdom and knowledge both in Christ and in educational subjects as well, food for VBS,Clothing for the poor, work for the fellowship, time for his brethern, and respect for the clergy. Joe was an unsong Hero in many ways always there and always helping, never looking for glory for himself. He help as many as he could on his journey in this life. Not to mention his hard work helping "The New Hope Baptist Five Blind Boys" reach a level of praise worthy of God! Thank Joe for always being "Joe"
