E. Eckhoff Obituary

Anchorage resident E. Kent Eckhoff, 58, died Feb. 28, 2008, at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Mo., from lymphoma.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cole Camp, Mo., with the Rev. Jim Brammeier and the Rev. Todd Kollbaum officiating. Burial will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Cole Camp. A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cole Camp with visitation afterward. A memorial service will take place March 18 at Anchorage Lutheran Church.
Kent was born Oct. 25, 1949, in Cole Camp, to Erwin and Dorothy (Dieckmann) Eckhoff.
He was married to Kathryn Fritz on June 19, 1993, in Anchorage.
Kent attended Trinity Lutheran School and Benton County R-1 High School in Cole Camp. He graduated from Central Missouri University in Warrensburg, Mo., with a bachelor's degree in business. In 1982, Kent moved to Anchorage, where he was a member of Anchorage Lutheran Church.
He was a property casualty insurance broker for Willis Corroon until 2000 and was employed with Marsh USA.
Kent enjoyed golfing, hunting, driving, exploring the world, reading newspapers and cuddling with his children while watching Westerns.
His family wrote: "He was a great husband, dad, grandfather, son, brother, brother-in-law and friend. He loved his family, and his faith in Jesus Christ our Lord was unwavering. He lived his life with honesty, integrity, humor, and expecting no one to give less than their best."
Besides his wife, he is survived by his parents of Cole Camp; three daughters and a son-in-law, Jane Eckhoff and Faith Eckhoff of Anchorage and Heidi and Craig Westermier of Cole Camp; son and daughter-in-law, Kristopher and Lynn Eckhoff, sister and brother-in-law, Mona and Allan Ipsen, all of Cole Camp; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mark Eckhoff of Cole Camp, Kevin and Karen Eckhoff of Independence, Mo., and Kerry and Tammy Eckhoff of Cole Camp; five grandchildren, Taylor and Kole Eckhoff and Hanna, Gage and Quinn Westermier, all of Cole Camp; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Otto and Dora Eckhoff and Otto and Hulda Dieckmann; and uncles, Raymond Eckhoff, Rufus Eckhoff and Melvin Dieckmann.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be given to Triple Creek Golf Course in Cole Camp, Anchorage Lutheran Church new hymnal fund, or Lutheran Social Services of Alaska in care of Fox Funeral Home in Cole Camp.

Kathryn,
Please accept my deepest sympathies. I had heard of Kent’s illness and had included him in my prayers and now I have just heard of his death and am deeply saddened. I considered Kent a dear and close friend. Seeing you and Kent last spring was like 20 years hadn’t passed. Kent was the ultimate friend. Many of my memories of him all include fun - playing softball, golfing or just visiting. His smile, good humor and compassion will be missed. The grief over the loss of Kent is, however, quickly overshadowed with the knowledge that he had a strong faith in the risen Christ with whom he now enjoys eternal peace and rest. May that always give you comfort and strength.

Kent and I studied together for several years to earn our CPCU designation. He was always the professional. I admired his intelligence and loved his quiet humor. We had our quarterly CPCU Society meeting this week and have made a donation in Kent's memory to the CPCU Lohman Education Foundation. He will be missed. Please know our thoughts and prayers are with you .

Over the past couple of years, I had numerous business dealings with Kent. I am not surprised to find out that he had an active and deep faith life. It was certainly evident in my dealings with him. He was always personable and professional. I know that this comes from a deep relationship with our Lord, through the presence of the Holy Spirit.

To the Eckhoff family, I wish to extend my deepest condolences for your loss. I pray that the Lord may comfort you in your grief. Fear not for Kent though. I know, as he did, that because of his faith, he rests in our Lord.

We always enjoyed Kent's smile - he had it for everyone. He was a great father, husband and a great person at church. He had a very strong faith, and we mix our sorrow with the faith that Kent is now with our Savior.
