Jeff Scott Obituary

Jeff Scott, 59, whose infectious passion for life and love of the great outdoors touched everyone he met, and who greatly improved recreational opportunities for many he never met, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017.
Scott died peacefully at home with his wife and close friends by his side after a valiant 13-month battle with brain cancer.
He was mountain biking in Spokane, Wash., in July 2016, when he was diagnosed.
Scott worked 32 years for NC Machinery, including the last 16 years as sales manager for Alaska.
He loved numerous outdoor activities, especially mountain biking, snow biking, cross-country skiing, scuba diving, hiking and backpacking. Scott served as president of the
Nordic Skiing Association for 10 years. He also assisted Singletrack Advocates in building mountain bike trails, and worked to bring both groups together, improving trails for all users.
Scott was active in his community, serving as lay leader of Turnagain United Methodist Church, volunteering in the Big Brother/Big Sister program and cheering on the Seawolves as a booster and superfan of the University of Alaska Anchorage women's volleyball team.
He also played softball and volleyball for many years in Anchorage adult leagues.
Scott was born on June 26, 1958, and grew up in the small central New Hampshire town of Andover. He attended the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1980. While taking an Officers Basic Course in Aberdeen, Md., that summer, he met Beth Yoder, a fellow second lieutenant.
They married on May 30, 1981, and soon after were stationed at Fort Richardson. They have lived in Anchorage ever since.
Scott is survived by Beth Scott, his wife of 36 years; his mother, Frie Scott of Westborough, Mass.; brothers, Ed Scott of Carmel, N.Y., and Chuck Scott of Carlsbad, Calif.; and sister, Elaine Park of Whitinsville, Mass.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017, at Kincaid Park Chalet beginning at 5 p.m.
In lieu of sending flowers, Jeff would want you to do as he and Beth always did: hug loved ones, especially your cats; get outside to take a hike or ride a bike; enjoy a cold beer; and watch the sunset with someone you love.

I was blessed to be in some of Jeff's classes at West Point early on in our time there. I will never forget his smile and how good it felt just to walk beside him. Life here is too short for all of us; I would have loved the chance to keep walking with him these past 37 years. From what I know, our Alma Mater's words characterize his life perfectly, "...may it be said 'well done'" Well done indeed, Jeff, be thou at peace.

My condolences to the Scott family. I never met Jeff at West Point, but it's tragic to see our young classmates have cancer take them away so soon.
