Ruth V. Fitzgerald

Ruth V. Fitzgerald of Ann Arbor, passed away January 10, 2013 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. She was 90 years old. Born September 22, 1922 in Ann Arbor she was the daughter of Gar Malejan and Queenie Yarmain. Ruth graduated from Ann Arbor Pioneer High School in 1940. She received her Bachelors in Business Education from Eastern Michigan University in 1953 and her Master of Arts from University of Michigan in 1962. She married Donald Fitzgerald on June 26, 1954 at Zion Lutheran Church in Ann Arbor. Ruth taught Business Education at Wayne Memorial High School from 1953-1964, the Ann Arbor Public Schools from 1970-1984 and later worked as a receptionist at the Michigan Orthopedic Center from 1995-2010. She also worked in rental management. She enjoyed reading, antiquing and shopping garage sales and enjoyed lunch dates with a group of fellow retired teachers. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Ann Arbor. Ruth is survived by her husband of 58 years, Donald Fitzgerald of Ann Arbor; two sons Douglas (Dolores) Nollar of Ann Arbor and Kevin (Denise) Fitzgerald of Northridge, CA; grandchildren Brian (Jolena) Nollar of Saline and Rebecca Nollar of Ann Arbor; great grandchildren Daniel and Christina Nollar of Saline; her sister Rosemary Pane of McLean, VA; nephews Gregg (Karen) Pane of McLean, VA and John (Cicie) Miller of Ypsilanti. She was preceded in death by one nephew Mark Miller. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at 11:00 am at Nie Family Funeral Home-Liberty Rd. Chapel, 3767 W. Liberty Rd. with Pastor Barry Ludwig officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-8 pm at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. In memory of Ruth, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Huron Valley or a charity of one's choice.
