Muriel Kelley Obituary
Muriel (Rutila) Kelley, 72, of Ann Arbor, died suddenly on September 28, 2013. She was born January 30, 1941 in Detroit, MI. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Leroy Kelley, and her mother Amelia Rutila. Muriel graduated from Dearborn High School in 1959 and The University of Michigan School of Nursing in 1963. She worked for many years as a R.N. at both The University of Michigan Hospital and St. Joseph's Hospital spending her entire adult life in Ann Arbor. She was an avid Michigan football fan, and enjoyed spending time with her family and many friends. She will be dearly missed by her son David Kelley, his wife Pamela, and grandsons David Jr. and Matthew. Also by daughter Karen (Kelley) Stetson, her husband Sean, and grandchildren Hannah and Nathan. Muriel was a fun-loving, spirited, young-at-heart Mom, Nana, and friend, and her passing will leave a great void in the lives of those who knew and loved her. The family will receive friends from 1-4pm on Sunday, October 6, 2013 at Nie Family Funeral Home, Liberty Road Chapel, 3767 W. Liberty Road, Ann Arbor, MI 48103. A memorial service will follow at 4pm. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Muriel's name to a charity of your choice. I came to Ann Arbor in 2001 as a new widow, still in shock over losing my husband less than a month before. Along with other wonderful neighbors Muriel and Lee reached out to welcome me and helped me find joy in life as I cared for a new grandchild and eventually married an old friend.
The years we spent in Ann Arbor were blessed by their friendship. In the past few years Muriel and I had shared our grief over losing our husbands. She was truly a woman with a caring warmhearted nature. We are all better for having known her and will dearly miss her until we meet again.
