Eugene "Sonny" Treiber, age 76, of Foley, Alabama passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011. Born on March 12, 1935 in New Brunswick, NJ, to Julius and Theresa Treiber, Sonny was the youngest of 6 and is predeceased by his siblings, Katherine, Louie, Ernie, Mary, and Jimmy. Sonny and his wife of 54 years, Shirley, lived in Franklin Park, NJ prior to their relocation to Foley in 1997. After proudly serving in the United States Navy during the Korean War, Sonny went on to work as a Pipefitter for Local 9. All those who knew Sonny, knew that he was a dedicated Giants football fan. Even after moving to Alabama, he continued his passionate support for the New York football team.

In addition to his wife Shirley, he is survived by his four children, Joni Fallon of Hamilton, NJ; Lisa Frye of Gulf Shores, AL; Teri Hoppe and husband Steve of Pennington, NJ; and James Treiber and wife Dawn of Kendal Park, NJ. Sonny was also a well-loved grandpa to his 7 grandchildren, Nicholas, Alex and Chris Vecsey, Dan Mahoney, Kristin Ciesielski, Leanne Fallon and Ryan Brost; step grandchildren, Jessica and Amy Mendoza and David Palmer and five great-grandchildren; his brother in-law, Richard Costlow and wife Dixie of North Carolina. He will also be deeply missed by his extended family, friends and special friends, Stephen, Janet and Sabrina Cooley and Frank and Dotty Shamy.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations made in memory of Sonny's avid support of the St. Jude's Children Hospital at www.stjude.org or 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. The visitation was Friday, December 30, 2011 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Pine Rest Funeral Home in Foley, AL. The funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 AM Saturday, December 31, 2011 at Pine Rest Funeral Home.
