Alfred J. Hassinger, age 85, of Rumson, passed away on Wednesday, March 6th. Alfred attended the Rumson and Red Bank schools. After the passing of his mother, he lived with his grandparents Louis and Elizabeth Hassinger in Monmouth Beach. He graduated from Long Branch High School. During his high school years, he was very active in his fraternity, writing and participating in the school shows. Alfred went on to attend Seton Hall University. He worked for Helmsley Spear in New York and then managed 744 Broad St. in Newark, retiring in 2002. He owned and operated the Hassinger Real Estate Agency in Rumson. He was a communicant of the Church of the Nativity, Fair Haven. Al served on the Rumson School Board, was a Rumson Scout Master, member of the Classic Car Club of America, previous member of the SSYC and the Monmouth Beach Club of which his grandfather was one of the founders. He enjoyed sailing, classic cars, music and entertaining dear friends. He was very proud of his family's brewing tradition, The Peter Doelger Brewery in New York City.

Alfred was predeceased by parents, Alfred J. and Gladys; his grandparents Louis and Elizabeth and a sister Mary Jane Callahan. He is survived by his wife Kathleen; a son Alfred J. and his wife Dana of Rochester, MI; his daughters Heather Hassinger and her partner April Haynes of Springfield, OR, Holly Hassinger of Hoboken and VT and Kathleen and her husband Brandon Halbert of Wynnewood, PA; and 6 grandchildren, Lauren, Emily and Alfred John Hassinger, IV; and Lane, Camille and Eve Halbert.

There are no visitation hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 11th, 11:00 AM at Church of the Nativity, 180 Ridge Road, Fair Haven. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in his memory to the Rumson First Aid Squad or the Monmouth County SPCA.
