What to say. Al, we always smile when we think of Barbara and how she helped us transition from one Basset to 2 and sometimes 3. I think of all the driving she must have done over the years and the number of lives she touched. I remember Phil laughing with you when she started bringing pitbulls home "what next?".

I know our Pearly Girl is waiting for her at the bridge - We cannot thank Barbara enough for getting Pearl to us. It was a big deal.

And I know that Barbara secretly did like kids after all!

I met Barbara many years ago when she was writing, editing, proofreading, layouts, and photos for the publications of the Communications Workers of American in NJ and I was doing the same for the NJ American Federation of Teachers. She was one of the founders of the Women's Affirmative Action Committee of the NJ Industrial Union Council, and we worked together for many years. She was a wonderful teacher and union activist. I haven't seen her for years, something I regret, and we lost touch after we both retired from our union work. She was a truly great lady and a superb leader who always put principles above personalities. My condolences to Al and her family.

I learned about Basset Hound rescue through the Daily Drool, an on-line list of basset fanciers. Barbara Wicklund was THE person to go to (in this Tri-Sate area) when a basset needed to be rescued. I first met Barbara in the parking lot of some hotel on the NY/NJ border. I was delivering to her capable hands, a basset who had been abandoned at a vet's office in the middle of the night. The dog had glaucoma. As soon as I opened the hatch on my car and Barbara saw her, she said, " Poor poor pitiful Pearl." The name Pearl stuck.
Long story short, Pearl became totally blind, but was adopted by a very loving family. She not only had a good life with them, she became an example of how a "handicapped" dog can lead a normal life if given the chance.

Barbara was all about giving chances to many dogs who were considered disposable. She, more than anyone, got me involved in basset hound rescue.

I know that Pearl, and so many other bassets and greyhounds met her as she passed over.

My condolences to Al and all of Barbara's two-legged family & friends.

Rest in peace, Barbara. You were a true hero to so many. You have no idea how many human and canine souls you touched. So many fur-babies lived happy lives because of you and your amazing devotion and passion for our fourlegged friends. There wasn't an animal out there that you would turn away from....you took care of them all, and in doing so, you took care of a lot of us humans, too,..... although you'd never admit it.
Thank you for patiently sharing your years of experience and expertise with me, and I'm sure, many others. You inspired me to get involved and make a difference. I will miss you.

We'll all see you at the Bridge when its time.....please kiss my fur-babies for me.

My deepest sympathy to Al, Barbara's sister and all of her friends.

We were so sorry to hear of Barbara's passing. We adopted our very first greyhound from Barbara. She really knew her stuff and was always available to answer any concerns a new greyhound owner might have to ask. It was an honor just to have known her. She was truly an angel for so many needy greyhounds. We could never thank her enough for giving so much of her life to helping greyhounds in need. We trust she was greeted by hundreds of hounds as they crossed the bridge together. Our sincere condolences go out to Al. Rest in peace, dear Barbara.

Barbara entrusted us with our wonderful Bongo. She gave her heart and soul to the hounds and I guess she knew that they were better than most people. Thanks for all your work Barbara. We are howling sweet ah-roos for you here.
